Well, my surgeon doesn't require a pre-surgery diet so I kind of made up my own that I could live with...
I'm doing a protein shake for 2 meals and then eating a "sensible" other meal (usually dinner) that contains mainly lean protein and veggies. I've also had a few sf jello and pudding cups, a couple of yogurts, cottage cheese or cheese sticks for snacks when I'm hungry or have the munchies. I've been doing it for a week and 1 day now and here's my stats:
Calories 1,000-1,200/day
Carbs 52-90/day
Fat 38-52/day
Protein 120-139/day
Weight lost: 7 lbs.

Get some Cold FX or Cold MD NOW!!!! My surgery is less than a month away & I am taking this stuff religiously - even kept my sniffly granddaughter for 2 days - never got sick at all.

I am chronic iron deficient, my doctor put me on NIFOREX liquid. You can buy it over the counter but need to ask the pharmacist for it. Most pharmacies do not stock and the bottle may cost you around $45-$60. 1 TSP 2X daily. It doesn't taste as bad as it sounds. Much like a spoonful of molasses syrup.
The liquid does a much better job at absorbtion quicker too!!

I hear you have surgery tomorrow. A GREAT thing you are doing. Best of luck to you and maybe when it is all over you can jot me down a line just to let me know how it went. My surgery is November 30, still a month away, but it will be here just the same. I'll be thinking of both you and sue since you have the surgery the same day.
