Topic: Keeping my surgery this month - Keep me in your thoughts, prayers!
There's a chance, if I don't lose enough weight and get my blood sugar under control, that my surgery may be postponed. It's scheduled for 11/19, and I went in last Friday for the Pre-Op Appointment. The doc told me that they're gonna redraw blood to check my blood sugars and weigh me when I come in on 11/14 for the nutritional class. If things aren't where they want them to be, it'll be postponed. They're worried b/c my weight was up to 330 (it was 318 when I was there on June 29th). I've been on a modified liquid diet since last Monday, 10/29, and I'll be on it till surgery day. My blood sugars are lower (they were almost 400! I know, I know!), and I was at the gyno yesterday and their sliding scale said I was 323. So I'm praying it'll be okay, but I really don't want to be postponed. So, if you pray, please keep me in your prayers, or just keep me in those positive thoughts! Thanks!!!!!

Its all gonna depend on several factors: how fast u get ur psy eval done and all ur paper work in and the approval time and u cant leave out your doctors schedule. if he's a popular doctor, it can takes months to get schdeuled in. SO get in everything as soon as u can!

Topic: RE: Support Group Meeting
Lenny: Thanks for letting us know. New York is a bit of a commute from Michigan though. I have been attending a peer support group for the past year and I LOVE it. It's so wonderful to have a group of people who have been through the process and can offer real life advice to help me get through whatever struggle I'm facing. I highly recommend everyone find a group to belong to. Thanks again, Pam

Angela: I'm so sorry that you've been rescheduled. Use this time to learn as much more as you can about life after surgery and get as healthy as you can beforehand. December 17th will be here before you know it. Might I suggest your boyfriend read the book "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies." It is the single most important resource I have ever found in my 2 years of research. I've read it a few times now. It goes through every type of surgery (even the ones not used any more, just as a reference), what questions to ask the surgeon, what things to take to the hospital, what to expect at every step of the process and what types of foods you'll be eating after surgery (including menus and recipes). So much great information in this book -- and a great place for him to do his research. Good luck Pam

It took me 18 months to get all the way through the process. My insurance company requires a 12 month doctor supervised diet history (most insurance companies require either 6 or 12 months). I DID have that diet history, but my doctor hasn't documented my efforts ... so even though I thought I was all set to go, I found out that I had to start over from the beginning. Have you called your insurance company yet? Find out all the things you'll have to fulfill before you can be approved. Normally it's the diet history, psych evaluation, various tests based on your medical history (sleep study, cardiac clearance, etc.) and a letter of support from your PCP. This will give you a better idea of what you need to go through to get approved. Good luck, Pam

Amy: No, I didn't have an EGD as part of my pre-op testing. But just wanted to leave you a note and wish you luck with everything - I hope it all works out and you'll be able to stay on schedule. Pam
