Topic: Thanksgiving surgery... holiday cooking solutions...
I am having my surgery on Nov. 21st... the day before Thanksgiving. So, I will have the "pleasure" of suffering through the smells of holiday cooking at my oldest daughter's house as I recover.
In order to not be too tortured with all of the wonderful smells, I have purchased turkey broth, cranberry juice, and Dryer's Low Fat Pumpkin Ice Milk (it tastes JUST like Pumpkin Pie... my Dr. said it was ok to have a small amount) for my "liquid feast".
Hopefully, this will make Thanksgiving more bearable.
I also made my own popsicles out of the New Whey Liquid Protein Bullets (diluted half and half with water). My Dr. said Sugar-free popsicles were allowed, but I thought why not get a little extra protein in there instead :)
Topic: RE: Horrible gas
Hello LaNiya, I am a BPD weight loss surgery patient, my eating program is strictly Atkin's. When I do eat foods containing sugar or bread, I suffer bloating, gas, and weight gain. When I stick to high protein, these problems cease. Mostly, bread is the culprit, especially junk bread with white refined flour. I'm not sure which surgery you had, or of your eating habits. Any weight loss surgery is a strain on your intestinal tract, digestion and bowel problems are to be expected. I am 5 years out, and still I have dumping syndrome. When not compliant with diet, my bathroom visits are fowl. My best suggestion for you is to abstain from white sugar, refined flour, and drink plenty of water to help clean your system.

Barbara,
Im gonna be totally honest about everything with you..first of all my best friend had the surgery about eight months before I did and she did just excellent, she made the whole event look like a breeze...she went back to work 3 days later. As for me, 3 days later I couldnt even walk upright. For about two weeks life was rough,Im not gonna lie..my friend had also had alot of family around to help her so I think that might of made a big difference too and I had noone and I guess that might of made it harder too. BUT I will tell you that I am so glad I did it, I wouldnt take it back, because of lap band I now have a chance to live a healthy life that I could not acheive on my own. So,I guess my point is, for me,it was a great choice. I have now lost 50 lbs, I had mine on June 4th, for my friend, weight lose has been even greater and faster. I know your nervous but you should be fine...I mean, its by no means easy but you got to think if it was easy everyone would be doing it! So, just try to not worry so much you will get through this and you will be a much thinner, healthier person for it! Take care, my best wishes!

Topic: RE: Surgery postponed for me, too...
It's a bit ironic - we're trying to get WLS because other attempts at weight loss have been unsuccessful. But then they postpone your surgery because you didn't lose weight?!?! Hhhhmmmmm... Well, at least we both have new dates and can be starting on the way to healthier bodies by the end of 2007! Best of luck to you on your journey!

You have such a positive outlook on this! I know for me, it's a longer period of time between the two dates and my postponing is from stupid lack of weight loss, but I really appreciate/respect your positivity towards your date being postponed. Especially when it was a hospital error!
