Topic: I came home a loser!
Hi all -
My surgery went well this past Tuesday (the 13th). In fact, my doctor said it was his easiest surgery of the day.
I struggled with nausea issues while I was in the hospital. At first I thought it was the morphine that was causing it (might have been), but once they took the pain pump away and started me on Lortab instead, I still had issues with feeling sick to my stomach and having the dry heaves. They finally too the little anti-nausea patch off behind my ear, I started feeling much better.
I was released from the hospital on Thursday afternoon and went to my parents house for a couple days. So here it is Saturday and I'm feeling so much better just being in my own house. My cat definitely missed me and hasn't stopped purring for the past 2 hours. LOL!
I walked around Wal-Mart for about 40 minutes this morning and my dad letting me borrow their treadmill for a couple months - he and my brother will deliver that this afternoon. So I'm working hard to get my walking in.
Well ... it's 1pm and I'm due for lunch. Seems like I've been eating constantly for the past couple days. I'm no longer obsessed with food, but I can see a clock-watching-addiction developing. The doctor's office gave me an eating schedule that has me doing something different every hour or so. I might need to get a stop watch or something. LOL!
Talk to you all soon,
Pam
Topic: RE: Any Bandsters in or near Corbin,ky??
I totally know what you mean, all of my dads family were really big and ofcourse I took after them..my dad passed away four yrs ago due to kidney failure and complications with diabetes and after watching him go thru dyalysis and everything for years and seeing my older sisters take shots, etc I knew it was a road I wanted to not go down! I knew I had to do something major to change it,and like you this was the first thing I think I ever did for myself in my whole entire life! For me,it is worth it, Im only -50lbs as of now,but atleast I have hope again, and even with just losing 50 lbs I feel so much better that its unbelievable! Hopefully when you have this done you wont no longer have to have the bp meds...as far as the site, I think its wonderful! Sometimes not many people reply, sometimes so many do that you cant respond to all but thats just life..lol theres also chat were u can chat with people live you may want to try that sometimes. Do you live in corbin or near? Im just curious,Id really like to start a support group in this area, Just cant find enough of us in the area...anyhow, Good luck! and take care.

Topic: RE: Can Anyone Help?
Hello Susan,
Okay, you may want to consider getting this done in ST. Paul. I did a little research and there are more surgeons there and they have better reviews, more experience, and a lot less requirement time in the hospital after surgery. I know it is a couple hours from your home but may well be worth it. I have to travel 4 hours to get mine done and I know it is a pain in the butt, but worth it too. You may want to at least check and see if they hold monthly orientations like most hospitals do and at least that way you can get that requirement met. Hope this helps.

Have you looked for other surgeons in the area? Seems strange that the surgeon doesn't hold one himself. I would check him out more. Good luck and keep us updated. In the meantime I will help you look for one.

Topic: Fibromyalgia and RNY Surgery
Hello Everyone,
I have severe Fibromyalgia and am getting the RNY. Has anyone here had Fibro and the RNY? Did the fibro get better or worse? I really need to know any experiences if anyone out there is willing to share.
Thank you.

Hello All,
Lap rny Mon afternoon. Hiatal hernia repair, only discomfort.
I took my last pain med 3pm yesterday, and I ran errands, today I drove.
Weighed in at pcp, his scales are true, wls doc's are at least 2 lbs light.
I am down to 251. I began in July at 276.
I kept moving the little weight further to the left.
Next week I will be out of the 250 big weight slot....
I am thrilled.
Doing great...bmj

Ralph,
I know what you mean about men feeling in the minority. We are in the minority, plus let's face it, we men tend to keep things to ourselves as a group much more, whereas the women love to process and chat about everything. Whether it's surgery or diet, any discussion about weight loss typically is oriented toward females.
I had RNY last Friday, and at one week today, I have lost 16 pounds. Pretty incredible. The pain has not been fun, but I really turned the corner on that yesterday. Still hurts, but I only took pain meds once yesterday. I will be happy when the pureed diet is over, because it's pretty rough getting down some of those protein shakes. Of course, this is going to be well worth it, and I feel fortunate it went through my insurance with little difficulty.
I've heard the same thing about losing quicker for men. Seems to be true so far. My wife had this done Sept 11, and I'm going a little faster than she did. Good luck with your surgery!
