I really want to second that hydration idea. You will do so much better if you keep pouring tha****er down. It is so good to hear that all is going well for you. Keep up the grat work.

Jen,
The reality is that you are not going to fail unless you decide to fail. I am just over 6 months out and I also had no complications. You need to take advantage of the first 6 months because the hunger will come back over time. You really want to get as much off as you can while the tool has this side effect of little hunger. You want to capture your new eating habits and not test the waters too far beyond what your doctor has recommended. If you do what you are supposed to, you will have some great success. For me, I've been fortunate enough to lose about 135 pounds since January of this year and I stayed as focused as I could. I was not perfect, but I did what I needed to do to get toward my goal. You can do it too..

Topic: new here just poking in to say hi
My name is Pam and I had gastric bypass surgery done on Nov 19th. All went well and I was home 2 days later. Unfortunately here I sit at the hospital again with my trustly laptop looking over this site. Two of my incison got infected...well one right after surgery and I was put on antibiotics but when the second one got infected despite being on antibiotics they decided to admit me ...worrying about MRSA infections....I am hooked up to the big guns of antibiotic...vancomycin. I am responding well to it ...this is my second day. I should be able to go home tommorrow.
I have felt great since day one..no issues can hold all the water protein drinks etc with no issue whatsoever. No pain or anything and the best part....I have lost 32lbs in the three weeks since the surgery. I have my first re check with the nutrisionist tommorrow and should get to go to pureed...YAY. I am pretty tired of the protien drinks it will be nice to have some new flavors. It is weird aside form the obvious wound infection and only drinking meals...I do not even feel like I had surgery. I can drink as much as I want and have yet to have any stomach issue.
I live in Massachusetts and would love to get to compare stories with someone in my area or just someone who is at the same point as me.
Anyone care to show me around here...there is so much on this sight it is overwhelming

Topic: RE: Please help me find a soy protein...I'm desperate
Hi!
Try looking for Soy Slender Soymilk. This is shelf-stable soymilk so look for it on a shelf in an aisle, not in the dairy section. It comes in flavors and is about 7 grams of protein for 8 oz. GNC makes a pretty good Soy Protein, in Vanilla, Chocolate and Unflavored. Stay away from the Banana, it's atrocious! If you make your shakes with the Soy Slender, you can get 27 grams of protein in one shake. When I was on full liquids, I would take 8 ounces of Tomato Juice, 8 ounces of water, heat it, flavor it with Old Bay Seasoning and throw it in the blender with a scoop of the unflavored Soy Protein Powder. Closest I could get to soup! Good Luck!!

DON'T TEST YOURSELF. I had my surgery on 11/7/07. I haven't lost as much as you (I've lost 20lbs). Treat those rules you've learned as WRITTEN IN STONE. This is a chance to make permanent, lasting changes. You don't need to test it. I haven't had much of a problem with food either, but I've been 100% compliant with my meal plan. I assume you're not eating portions like you used to, but that you're worried about certain food you've eaten (bread maybe? or sweets?). Stay completely away from those foods you shouldn't have, and believe me, yes, I know that's hard. But, you didn't go through what you've gone through to throw it all away now. YOU CAN DO IT! If you're still worrying, call your nutritionist or doctor and ASK. No point in just worrying. You can use your fear to push you to do things you shouldn't or to motivate you to stick to the rules you've learned. It's up to you. Good Luck, and I hope to hear about your success soon!

I dont know if anyone else is going through this but I could really use some help. I had RNY on Nov 14th. I have healed and recovered rapidly and have been working out for a week now. My problem is that nothing makes me sick. nothing has gotten stuck, nothing has disagreed with me. I am terrified. I know i shouldn't have tried certain things but i was almost testing myself to see if i could get sick or uncomfortable. I almost feel like i never had surgery. the only difference i feel is that i am not hungry, but i feel no restriction. I just need to know if anyone else is going through this. i am really scared that i am going to fail. I am still down 35 pounds since my surgery which i think is great for 4 weeks, but i am scared anyway. any ideas??

Topic: RE: anyone have pain when you eat ?????
Hi Margaret-
I am three weeks out tomorrow (11/19/07) and have been on ground proteins for about four days so far...I would echo Christi's suggestion of making sure you have chewed things thoroughly...The only "blip" I have had was yesterday when I was eating some deli turkey and got distracted from my chewing duties and probably swallowed a little too much...I did not vomit, but did have a gas/heartburn type pain for over 20 minutes following that...If you are chewing well, I would contact your surgeon first thing in the morning...there could be a problem...
Good luck and try to stay positive!

Based on what I have read on other forums, the first thing I would ask is, are you chewing enough? We want to be sure there are no lumps whatsoever when we swallow, and make sure there is some moisture in our food. That's why some say to stay away from mashed pots right away, because they are thick, and we'll tend to not let them "dilute" in our mouths before we swallow.
My second consideration would be a stricture. Maybe you healed up too well, and now your little opening is just too little.
If you can comfortably eliminate chewing as the source of you problem, call your surgeon. It's not supposed to be painful. Remember, pain is your body's way of telling you there is a problem.
