Topic: RE: Hello Everyone, I...
Hi Beth, Hang in there. I had my surgery on 11-1-07 and have been losing weight slowly. Of course people I talked to lost '*tons* of weight compared to what I was losing. I seem to lose only a couple of pounds and then 5-8#'s in a week. I was also worried/disappointed that I wasn't dropping weight quicker after all that I went through to get 'here'. Everyone is different- also- I'm sure you are not really active yet, I know I wasn't until about 2 weeks ago when I started working out again. So for the little amount of foods you are taking in, you are probably not moving around much either. Follow the nutritionists directions... PROTEIN FIRST, protein first, protein first. I was not always doing that and I did notice that my weight loss slowed when I was eating carbs or veggies more than proteins. Good luck and Good Health... sue

Topic: Hello Everyone, I...
Hello Everyone, I had my RNY 11/28 and started out at 330 pounds. The first two weeks I only lost 10 pounds. Although I'm trying not to be disappointed, I'm a little concerned that I will not loose this weight after such a small weight loss. With my weight being so high, I felt I should have lost more than 10 pounds during this two week period. I have heard of some people not actually being able to loose weight after RNY. Has anybody experienced low weight loss in the beginning like this? If so, did your weight loss pick up?

Jennifer, I had my surgery 11/28 and the doctor told me I have to get in 75 grams of protein a day. I use the "New Whey" liquid protein and do not have any trouble as I'm actually getting in 84 grams! They come in little "test tube" looking plastic containers and each one has 42 grams of protein. The best part is it is only 3.1 oz!!!! It's really thick, almost like syrup so I mix mine with water and it's actually okay. You can buy these at GNC, Vitamin World and Smoothie King. You can also order them online. I would caution you with the flavors though as I've only found the grape flavor to be tolerable. You really need your protein in order to heal and stay healthy. Good luck and if you need anymore suggestions, I have a list I can give you! Beth

Topic: Questions
Hey Everyone, Well, I have some questions and concerns. I had my surgery on November 20th. I am having a hard time getting my protein in. When I actually get hungry, I don't want meat. I usually end up eating a cracker or cheese. So, I am really worried about not getting enough protein in. Is it ok to go back to protein shakes? I was not sure since I was post-op. When I get myself to eat meat, I barely eat any. On top of that, lately pretty much everything has been making me sick feeling...Blah... But I am getting tired of the same old things, so what are some good recipes. I feel bad that I am already having these problems and I am barley a month out. I hope I have not been a burden on anyone! I would love some advice! I hope everyone was a wonderful and Blessed night!

Good luck with your return to work! It helps a lot to have a routine, though some days, I do miss that nap.

Topic: Going back to work tomorrow
I think I've gotten too used to lounging around the house and being lazy for the past 5 weeks. I head back to work tomorrow morning!! It'll be good to get onto a regular routine - which will help me with eating. But I'm going to miss the life of leisure. Pam

Hi Pam, I hope you are home now and on the road to recovery - I too am from MA and had RNY on 11/14/07 - didn't feel like I had surgery at all - have lost 23 pounds and am on regular RNY diet with protein supplements - I am also getting used to this site but have found it very helpful as I go through stages of diet etc. Keep us posted and hope all is going well - Marie
