I am stuggling too in lots of ways. I'm pretty good about getting in supplements, but I fall short on the water some days. I meet my goals on protein, but on the low end of the range. And sometimes... I want pizza! A big ole cheesy pizza. Weighed in today and lost 3 lbs - so now 37 in 6 weeks. But it's hard to be happy with 3 in a week when you have to work so hard to get there...

I've lost 23.5 pounds so far. I actually called my Nurse Practitioner to ask if this was something to be concerned about. She said that as long as the general trend was downward on the scale, she felt my weight loss was acceptable.

In all I have lost 76 lbs but honestly 40 of that came before surgery. Since surgery I have lost almost exactly the same as you, 36 lbs. and my date was also Nov 6th. How do you feel about the surgery now I am still struggling?

Gosh, I had surgery on 11/20 and lost 20 lbs (including a pre-op diet). But with no restriction, I am having a hard time loosing additional weight and stick to Stage 3. I am trying not to let it bother me, but all this work and stuck for over a week at 20lbs. Plus-honestly it has been about a week I feel no restriction and real hungry. what to do?

Hi Diana
I had my rny the same day as you and i've lost 34lbs . I lost 28lbs in the first two weeks and it completely slowed down but i have lost 3 to 4 inches in the last couple of weeks so it doesn't matter if the scale is telling you your not losing but the inches are still coming off have you taking your mesurements? if not it might be a good idea to do so.in the last week i've lost 4 lbs so it's finally starting to move again.

Hi all,
Just wanted to compare with my fellow Nov '07 classmates. (It feels slow to me.) What is your loss so far? I'm at 34.

GNC also makes a Protein Shake called "Designer Whey" in fruit flavors. I have the Orange/Mango and the Pomegranete. I found these easier to deal with in the beginning. I would say that if Protein Shakes are the only way you can get your protein in, then so be it, but make sure your doctor is aware. Protein is the most important way you help yourself to heal, whatever way you can get it. I was on liquids for three weeks after my surgery, and am still on puree. Hopefully, I will advance to full diet this Thursday when I see my nutritionist.

I've had pretty much the same experience as you. I had my surgery on 11/7/07 and have lost 23 pounds. I even went so far as to speak with the Nurse Practitioner at my doctor's office. Her words were that everyone is different, and as long as the general trend is downward, everything is fine. It's so hard to be patient though, isn't it? Same as you, I've read about so many people dropping a ton in the first few weeks. I firmly believe it will come for BOTH OF US. Hang in there!

Hi Beth-
I too found my weight loss somewhat slower than those I read online here...However, I take into account a few things...First, I don't have as much to lose as a lot of people here (~100lbs), so I knew it wasn't going to melt off...Second, for me personally, whenever I do a diet where I am severely limiting my calories, my metabolism will shut down and I only lose negligible weight...I had RNY on 11/19/07 and for the two weeks I was on the liquid diet (and also the two weeks leading up to surgery, so four weeks) I only lost about 7lbs. Since transitioning in my program to ground proteins, I have more energy to walk for exercise, feel less weak during the days and have seen my weight loss pick up...However, everyone is very different, so bottom line, keep that in an open mind...As cliche as it sounds, this is a marathon, not a sprint! Best of luck and Happy Holidays!
