Topic: Weight Loss To Date
Just thought I'd post a new thread, so we can see how everybody is doing! As of today, Im down 43 pounds. Doesn't feel like enough, but I'm trying not to let it get me down. I just keep telling myself that no matter what the scale is finally going in the right direction. And just because I'm always curious about others, I'm 5'4 and started out at 304.5.

My surgeon said some doctors don't fill the first time for 3 months!! I had to wait 6 weeks. They told me not to be surprised if I stayed the same or even gained a little before my first fill. From my 2 week visit (I had lost 13) to today (my first fill) I had only lost 3 more. He said any weight loss at all before the first fill is great!!

I agree with Jenn. I experienced this twice, and it was due to dehydration.

Hello I got stuck with water but ice did help me also I had an open RNY 11/7/07 food is so differant for us now or at least for me I have found I do not like quit a bit of food i use to but crave raw veggies with a little non fat dressing or plain it is a nice snack bu****er has been a problem for me, but the vitamin water by glaceau is good water like cystal lite it helps me get the fulids in I kept getting light headed because of dehydration so it helps keep me hydrated. i went on b12 vit. subligal they disolve under your tongue and i get them at walgreens here. only place i can find them........ it helps with energy. gl on your journey remember you are still recovering though so it will take a while for your body to get back to completely normal.. or at least what i was told by my dr. best of times to come!!! cathy

Hi Kim. Can relate to your situation. I had my RNY from 1992 revised 11/13/2007 and later had a stent in my esophagus for 6 weeks because I had a gastric leak. Needless to say this affected food tolerance. Fat free turkey breast, any kind of white fish or salmon(being careful not to overcook) and little bits of stewed chicken have worked OK for me. Reheated food still doesn't agree with me even if it is quite moist. Wouldn't worry too much about difficulty tolerating plain water - that has been the most common complaint I've heard from fellow patients when I've gone to post-op doctor appointments. Good luck!

Topic: RE: lap band is a dream buster . it doesn't work. BEWARE of this surgery
Hi Michelle, I will agree that the lapband does NOT work for everyone. I, too, am having difficulties with the band. I count myself lucky since reading your post. I don't have the vomiting and tightness that you are having, therefore, I am lucky. I am not losing weight (10 lbs since surgery in Oct.). The medical staff is telling me I"m crazy. Actually, they didn't use that word but they might as well have. I'm experiencing "head hunger" according to the "experts", who by the way, have NOT gone thru lapband surgery themselves. Its a shame that if you speak your opinion, negative or positive on here, you would not be attacked but supported. I support you as I understand your frustration. I would support you if I were successful and help in any way I could with advice or prayers. Just knowing someone out here cares, truly cares about your frustration, can only help. I had a doctor, not the one who did my surgery, but another one, asked me why I was upset with the band. I told him and he told me that anyone can "sabotage" the surgery. Well let me tell you girlfriend, I would soon die on the side of the road than to ever let that doctor touch me EVER again! He "ASSumed" I wasn't following the plan. So don't let anyone tell you that you don't have the right to feel the way you do, doctor/staff/friends/idiots. You have the right to voice your opinion. I agree it may help the next person. It helped me today! Hang in there. Keep in mind, the good thing about the lap band is...its reversible if you have to go that route.

To all of you that responded to me, thank you, you sure have boosted my spirits when needed most. I guess if I didn't do the medifast I may not lose as much before the surgery so I guess when it is over I will be happy. Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am now 5 days on medifast with a broth each day to keep me sane haha and it is alittle better. Thanks and stay on the site as I think we can help each other. Nancy in NY

Topic: RE: Weight Loss ---lap band
I am exactly the same as I was before surgery. My doctor said it is normal and I am scheduled for a 2nd fill after one month. But he said I could try to come in sooner-but no appts available. So Yes, I am aggravated. I just do not want to be hungry. We will see what happens after the 2nd fill.

Hey there Nancy, I was banded on 12/10. I was a "cash" patient so I was only on a liquid diet 24 hours before surgery! That was the cool thing. The bad part was I never got to sit down with the psychologist or a nutritionist so I am flying blind. I think the risk of side effects is worth the feeling when the scale drops 5-10-15-20 pounds! Good luck and hope everything goes well for you!!
