Topic: RE: what do you eat at 3 months out
Hi, My surgery was Nov 30, 2007 and I eat home made soups with carrots, onions, a little bit of potatoes, chicken from a can, ect with chicken broth. I also can eat chicken salad on a cracker if I eat slow and chew real well. Nothing raw, if I want onions or cellery in it, it has to be cooked first. I can't hardly eat any kind of meat real well or it feels stuck even when I chew it and it hurts and eventually it comes up, so I can sure relate to you in your problem. I still drink my protien drinks (2) daily and I have 1/2 a protien bullet a day or I have 1 shake and two 1/2's of the protein bullet a day, since you can not consume too much protein at one time and be able to use it effectivly in your body. I try to eat some sort of fruit or 100% juice a day for regularity and any kind of vegi's.......green beans(sometimes with low fat cream of mushroom or chicken soup), carrots, cauliflour, broccoli, no corn for me but any vegi that I can cook soft, not mushy. sugar free apple sauce is good and I add some extra cinnamon for added flavor. I even ate a raw tomato yesterday and a couple grapes, it all went down good. I can eat 1/2 a slice of toast and a scrambled egg, I even add a bit of cheese sometimes. At times I add a little bit of diced sugar free peaches to my cottage cheese. Just be creative. I can't eat anything concidered solid food yet either but I eat pretty much what I want as long as it is soft and no sugar or fat. Maybe I am wrong with what I am doing, but it has worked for me so far and I am loosing and feeling good too. Along with 45 mins a day of exercise. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask me anything. ~Jeannie~

That is too funny. I did go to see the doc and he did the same to me. My BP was VERY low as well. He started by cutting my BP meds in half and two weeks later took me off it totally. I am 99% back to normal, it is just taking time to work through my system and all will be good in another week or so. I am glad that you found your problem as well. And no I didn't mean it was funny that you went through feeling dizzy. What I meant was that it was funny that we both went through the same thing over the same thing. ~Jeannie~

I haven't found anything that I can't eat yet. Some things react a little differently from day to day, but I don't have any real trouble. Sorry you are having so much trouble, and that your surgeon is being a dink. I hope the dietician will be able to help you out. I know that struggling to eat does happen to others, I hope your problem ends soon.

Hopefully by now you've been able to figure out what the problem is. but I recently had the same problem. Turned out to be my blood pressure. My doctor took me off my high BP meds because my readings were running VERY low (85/40 to 100/60). He said that once the medication is totally out of my system that my blood pressure should get back up into the normal range. Good luck Pam

Topic: RE: I'm struggling to get my protein in.
The only way I was able to find a protein powder I liked was to try a whole bunch of samples. I ordered the 21-flavor protein powder sample pack from www.enjoyhealth.com I was able to try different flavors and brands without spending a fortune on big jars of powder. I posted a list of websites in my profile that sell samples of protein powder. I personally love the Nectar Chocolate Truffle and I make it into protein hot cocoa for my morning commute. Usually this is the only protein drink I have for the day - otherwise I'm getting the rest of my protein from food. I also found Carb Master Yogurt (Kroger brand) and it has 12g of protein in a cup. The strawberry is my favorite, but there's also vanilla, raspberry and peach. this works great for breakfast or a snack during the day. It takes a lot of work and focus to hit your protein goals everyday and some days I feel like I'm thinking about protein all day long. But it's been getting easier as I find more high protein snacks and establish routines with my eating plan. Pam

I'm just a couple days away from 3- months out. Here's what my typical day of eating looks like: Morning Commute to work --- Protein Hot Cocoa (recipe in my profile) Breakfast -- Carb Master Yogurt (Kroger Brand) Lunch -- about 1 cup of salad and 1/2 c soup (homemade bean soup this week) Snack -- cheesestick or dry roasted edamame or protein bar or whatever Dinner -- some type of meat (beef, fish or pork) and veggies or another salad Chicken still doesn't work for me unless it's canned. Eggs don't work great either. Salads are my current favorite thing - didn't realize how much I missed 'em until a few weeks ago. The only thing I officially have not been cleared to eat is citrus fruit like oranges, grapefruit and pineapple -- because of the high sugar and the fiberous texture. But I had some pineapple the other day and it was fine. I average about 750-850 calories per day and get 75g to 85g of protein per day. I normally get my water in everyday too -- if i don't it's because I forgot to drink, not that I couldn't. HTH Pam

I love this thread. I'll add my totals in as well. I had lap RNY on 11/13/07, my highest weight was 331 and I lost 18lbs pre-op, so I was 313 on the day of surgery. I am now at 235 so thats 78lbs down. I'm 4 lbs away from a 100# loss from my highest weight and cant wait to be able to say "I've lost 100#"

My surgery was a few days after yours, and I can eat almost anything also. I'm sorry you're having these problems.

I eat pretty much what my family eats only on a much smaller scale. I know when I take the bite if it is not going to agree with me. If I detect anything to hard or rubberry I get rid og it before I let it go into my little tummy.
