Topic: RE: Monthly Weigh In
I hit the 50 pound mark this week. It's frustratingly slow, but at least going in the right direction.
Starting weight: 266
Surgery date: 11/28/07
Current weight: 216
Goal: Not sure, around 150 or so.
And Jenny, I dump if I have more than 15 - 20 of the bad carbs in a meal, whether they contain sugar or not. Cereal has a lot of carbs unfortunately so I don't touch it.

Hi All-
I had surgery on 11/12 with a starting weight of 285. (5 feet 8") It has been three months and two weeks. I have lost 66 pounds. I am down to 219 with a goal of 165. I have been exercising 5-6 times a week. I get on my treadmill for 20 min each day, and then I do abs and light weight lifting at night while watching tv. I also try to do a pilates video or yoga etc for another 20 min if I have time. (I work 4 days a week and have four year old twins, a house and a husband!)
I feel like the scale doesn't move very quickly. I lost 30 pounds the first month. I think though that I am losing well. The dr told me at my two month check up that I was losing like someone who was 4 months out. I was happily surprised. I feel great most the time. I have had to relearn how to chew my food!!! I have also had to slow down my eating tremendously.
That's about it from pittsburgh....

Hi Barbara
I don't have any problems with my blood pressure or sugar or anything like that. I do have to say that I have felt like that before.
1st time I had a small bowl of cereal with milk and about an hour later I started shaking, sweating, my heart was going crazy I left like I was going to pass out!
The next day I called my doctor and he said that it could of been dumping. I don't know why that would be when the milk was fat free and the cereal had no sugar.
2nd time again I had some daily breakfast (chocolate) and I even had to throw up that time! I wanted to die! Again my doctor said the same thing, that it could of been from dumping.
Check with your doctor and let us know what he said.
Hope you feel better
Jenny

The scale don't seem to move much for me either, but at least it is not going up so every pound I am thankful for. As of this morning I am down 41lbs I had my surgery Nov 28. Last night was the first time I felt sick since surgery, It felt as if I was going to pass out I could feel like my heart was beating through my whole body I checked my blood sugar and it was 80 so I ate a slice of lunch meat and I felt a little better. I felt the same this this morning when I woke up so I call my PCP and made an appointment for tomorrow morning. Has any one eles felt like this before I use to take pill for high blood pressure now I don't I may have to get back on them.

Topic: Monthly Weigh In
Well, its about that time again. I really like these threads, as I think they help us all figure out how well we are doing. It's nice to be able to compare, even if some people say we shouldn't. I feel like I'm losing too slowly, but I'm trying to just accept that. As of this morning, I'm down 53.5 pounds. 02/26 will be three months. I know if I could exercise more, I'd probably lose quicker, but I'm really struggling with some dizziness, that doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm going to the doctor this week for my three month check up though, so I'll discuss with him! I hope everyone else is doing great!! Let's hear your numbers
Starting Weight: 304.5
Surgery Date: 11/26
Current Weight: 251.0
Height: 5"4
Topic: RE: Water?
Hello all, thank you for your responses they have been helpful and Pam I thank-you especially I called my nutritionist and she told me pretty close to what you told me but I wanted to make sure through my dr's staff and the nut was ok with it but said to continue to try to get more plain water in then other stuff. thanks for the advice it has helped Cathy
Topic: RE: Water?
My Nutritionist wants me to get half of my fluid intake from plain ole water. I simply can't do it. so she's happy if I can just get my 64oz in however I can.
My protein shake in the morning counts toward my fluid intake. Then I do three 20oz glasses of crystal light throughout the day. But you could also do hot tea, hot cocoa, ice tea or even water with a twist of lemon/lime/orange/cucumber for flavor.
I also find that it's easier for me to drink if I'm drinking out of a glass with an open top --- rather than a water bottle with a small opening. Not sure why, but it works for me.

Topic: RE: How many ounces are you eating ?
It totally depends on what I'm eating. the more dense the food, the less I eat. If it's something that's soft or liquidy I can eat more. Here are some examples.
Beef, pork, fish, chicken -- about 3oz
Yogurt, pudding, etc. -- about 6oz
Stew, chili, thick soup -- about 8oz
Salad - about 1 cup or a bit more
Fruit & Veggies --- about half an apple or about 1/2c veggies (snack type stuff)
At this point our pouches are probably still not fully healed with regard to the nerves that were cut during surgery. It takes about 3 to 9 months for those nerves to regenerate and start working again. so we won't feel the same sensations we're used to (full, hunger, etc.).

Topic: RE: Weight Loss To Date
My rny was 11/7/07 and I have lost 68 lbs. I'm very happy, but I'm stuck at 200# and want to see the "1"'s so bad I can't stand it and I've been at 200# for 2 weeks or more.... I know its not realistic to get discouraged at the amount I have lost in so little of time - but for now I'm staying off the scales - they are mocking me...hehehe
