Hi Pam!
I grew up in Michigan! I'm from Port Huron, moved down here about 15 years ago. Are you getting nervous about surgery? I go from worry to total excitement daily.
Topic: RE: Anyone need to go on a liquid diet before surgery?
I know this is coming a bit late ... but thought I'd share what I'm required to do.
I had to order a "15 day pre-operative kit" from a vendor called Better MD (I checked their website and it doesn't look like they sell to the general public). It cost $146 for the 15 day supply. Seemed pricey to me, but I didn't have a choice.
In the kit comes:
- 6 flavors of protein powders for shakes (3 per day)
- 2 flavors soup (creamy chicken veggie & ministrone is what I picked)
- flavored high fiber drink mix
I haven't actually received my box of goodies yet or the instructions on what i have to do, but it sounds like I'll be living on soup and protein shakes.
The good thing about doing the liquid diet beforehand is that I won't have to do the bowel prep nightmare since I'll already be cleaned out from the diet. LOL! There's always a sunny side, huh?
Good luck
Pam

Hi Deidre:
I just found this forum the other day and am so happy that there's a place for us November Losers to hang out together. I'm sure we'll be able to learn from each other as we take this journey together.
Glad to hear the liquid diet isn't as bad as it sounds. I start mine in a week and not exactly looking forward to it. But hopefully it won't be so bad.

Wow! November 1st is coming to quickly. How are you doing with everything?
I am currently re-reading the book "WLS for Dummies" and the sections about preparing for surgery. There's a lot of great suggestions in there about make sure you have your house and fridge ready for you when you get home, what things to buy ahead of time (liquid Tylenol wasn't even on my radar) and what groceries to stock up on at the beginning. Great book indeed.
What things have you done to get prepared?

Hi Layla:
I'm feeling the same way ... like I'm walking through a dream and all this stuff is happening around me. Surreal is the right word for this stage, I think. I'm really focusing my energies right now on getting my mindset heading in the right direction - mentally preparing myself for the post-op life.
Congrats on your upcoming date - it's coming so fast! Good luck with the pre-op testing and finishing up that liquid diet.

Wow Judy! Your process went so fast - how great that you got to pick your own date.
I just got my surgery date on Friday after fighting my way through insurance hoops for 18 months. Glad the fight is over and the healing can begin soon.
