Topic: RE: Can I really do this?
Hi Shannon.
I'm still pre-op and I guess I've had a few of the same thoughts...but I'm really excited! I know I can be disciplined in my eating because I've done it so many times before...but I always give up at some point and never actually reach goal. Have you had that experience? I think if you've lost weight and have been disciplined about your food in the past it helps you feel a little more secure going in to this surgery.
Sounds like you ARE obsessing...I think you need to find a new obsession! What do you like to do? Refocus your attention to something else. If you continue to focus on what you can't have you're definitely not going to be a very fun person to be around!
I know there have been posts on the main board about "what to do instead of eating" and things like that...maybe you should do a search and see what you come up with. Surely there is something on those lists that would help you refocus.
For me, I'm a Christian, so focusing my attention on God by getting really into a great bible study or just reading the bible or singing along to worship music really helps me. I even have some favorite verses that I carry with me to help me refocus on something other than food when I need to. I'd love to give you some specifics of what I do if you're interested...just private message me.
You can do this...but it's NOT going to be easy. If you're looking for ease you might as well resign yourself to staying obese. (IMO) I know you've read plenty of people on these boards who have had these surgeries and say it's NOT EASY...
Do you have a psychologist or a support group that you can discuss this with? It almost sounds to me like you might not really be ready to take this big of a step...but I don't know you and I haven't read anything you've written other than this post...so I'm sure I'm jumping to conclusions...maybe it's just jitters?? I would say if you're not 100% about doing this you shouldn't do it...but again...just my opinion.
Good luck!
Heather
Topic: RE: advice?
Hi Mary. It's funny how all of our experiences are a little different. I am scheduled for the lap band on 11/19. I just went to the pre-op class this past week and was told the clear liquid diet for only the day prior to surgery. But, we were told to limit our carbs as they turn into sugar and of course, limit the sugar too. We were told that sugar just adds fat to your liver and that is not what they want to have to deal with during surgery. I have a "Fatty Liver" anyway and that is one of the reasons for my surgery.
In any case, you can do it, just try to take each day as it comes and remember why you are doing this and think of how good you will feel when it is all said and done. You will find that you are a lot stronger than you think....after all, you made the decision to change your life and nobody likes change but you did it anyway so you can do this too.
Take care and good luck. Add me to your friends list and we can keep in touch.

Topic: RE: Any November LapBanders Out there?
Hi Diana.
Glad that we can chat! My journey began way back in April of this year. My health insurance requires a lot before surgery. I had to go to my PCP once a month for 6 months to document my "weight loss" attempt. I also had to go to a nutritionist, a psych evaluation, pulmonary clearance and of course, the surgeon. I have been to the doctor so many times, I can't stand it!! So, this is why I say that I am so impatient and I have made it this far. It has really been a long process. Then after all visits are complete, all results have to be sent to the surgeon and then sent to insurance for approval. I was so excited that it got approved after all of the visits to doctors!! Just last week I went to my pre-op seminar and got all of the info about what to expect after surgery, etc. It was really informative. This Friday I go to get my blood work done and EKG and chest x-ray. After that, I am done with doctor's visits! So, I went to an informational seminar way back in May and that began my research into the Lap Band. The surgeon thought I was a great candidate for the Lap Band, I am not in an emergent situation and need to lose quickly like most people getting a RNY. I have had a lot of problems over the course of about 6-7 years with weight and never really lost anything for a long time. I haev an 8 year old son and a 3 year old daughter and let's just say that I never really lost what I gained with the 3 year old and gained additional too. So, it's been a struggle.
I work full time and so does my husband so our eating habits are not the greatest, it's always a *****aotic in our lives trying to pick up the kids from wherever they are and then get home and try to make a healthy, quick meal. And, since we are not home and settled until after 6 most nights, we tend to eat late which is not good. And, of course, I don't make the best food choices, it is so much easier to eat junk food than to eat healthy!
My husband is very supportive of my decision and thinks its going to help our entire family eat better. My mom tends to be very opinionated and has not really been all that supportive and at times has questioned my ability to handle to liquid diet afterwards. She tends to be a negative person so I can't let her get to me, I know I am making the right decision for myself and my family. I have been married for 12 years and I think at times she still thinks she can control what I do......but that's a whole other story! It does get to me at times b/c I wonder why it is so hard for her to be supportive. But, it is a constant thing with her so at this point, it's just one more thing for her to criticize. My dad is really supportive....not at all like her. (thank god!)
Sorry to ramble on and on....I am glad that we are both on our way and we can hopefully help each other out. So many things will be changing, it is very exciting!!
Do you know the time of your surgery or the details about your hospital stay yet?
Talk to you soon!!
Lisa :-)
Topic: This time next week I will be starting my new life
Ok I admit I am starting to get nervous! I know I will be fine, I am just so excited to get this going. I have lost 5 pounds this week, so I know I can eat better and do this. I don't have to do a liquid diet until 2 days before......but I am ready.
I have to say I am not sleeping much though. Anyone else like me? All you think about is LapBand surgery 24/7????
Topic: RE: Not one of you anymore
Yes, it is worth while. I'm not too upset at this point. At least I know that I'll start my journey in good health.
Thanks

So sorry....you must be so disapointed. But everything happens for a reason and January will be here soon. Anything that's worth while is worth waiting for. Good luck with everything.
