what do you eat at 3 months out
I really would like to know what you are eating at 3 months out. Not what I should be able to eat, what you are actually eating. Is anyone else having the same problem as me?
The problem? I'll be 3 months out Feb 22 and can't eat much of anything. I don't mean quantity, but variety. I can eat most things on the full liquids diet, except for the lentil soup I used to be able to eat. So my diet consists of hot cereal, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, crackers, jello, protein shakes and bars, canned peas, anything that is either liquid or can be chewed to a paste into my mouth. I used to be able to eat purees but they hurt too much now. I've gone to my surgeon 3 times for help and last time he did do an upper GI which of course showed that fluids are getting through, no surprise there, but he refuses to scope me to see if I have a stricture. He tells me my diet is normal and I'm too impatient. He also informed me I was being difficult and that I was burning my bridges behind me as no one would want to help me (I've never been anything but nice to everyone I've spoken to, it's my nature). I've come to the point where I have no confidence in him any more and this is my last resort.
I would love to know what you're able to eat if you're close to my date for surgery. I'm going to make an appt to see the hospital dietitian at the end of the month and see what she has to say but this question is really bugging me. Any answers you can give me would be helpful.
So everyone, what do you eat?
Hugs, Ellie
I'm just a couple days away from 3- months out. Here's what my typical day of eating looks like:
Morning Commute to work --- Protein Hot Cocoa (recipe in my profile)
Breakfast -- Carb Master Yogurt (Kroger Brand)
Lunch -- about 1 cup of salad and 1/2 c soup (homemade bean soup this week)
Snack -- cheesestick or dry roasted edamame or protein bar or whatever
Dinner -- some type of meat (beef, fish or pork) and veggies or another salad
Chicken still doesn't work for me unless it's canned. Eggs don't work great either. Salads are my current favorite thing - didn't realize how much I missed 'em until a few weeks ago.
The only thing I officially have not been cleared to eat is citrus fruit like oranges, grapefruit and pineapple -- because of the high sugar and the fiberous texture. But I had some pineapple the other day and it was fine.
I average about 750-850 calories per day and get 75g to 85g of protein per day. I normally get my water in everyday too -- if i don't it's because I forgot to drink, not that I couldn't.

I haven't found anything that I can't eat yet. Some things react a little differently from day to day, but I don't have any real trouble. Sorry you are having so much trouble, and that your surgeon is being a dink. I hope the dietician will be able to help you out. I know that struggling to eat does happen to others, I hope your problem ends soon.
Hi, My surgery was Nov 30, 2007 and I eat home made soups with carrots, onions, a little bit of potatoes, chicken from a can, ect with chicken broth. I also can eat chicken salad on a cracker if I eat slow and chew real well. Nothing raw, if I want onions or cellery in it, it has to be cooked first. I can't hardly eat any kind of meat real well or it feels stuck even when I chew it and it hurts and eventually it comes up, so I can sure relate to you in your problem. I still drink my protien drinks (2) daily and I have 1/2 a protien bullet a day or I have 1 shake and two 1/2's of the protein bullet a day, since you can not consume too much protein at one time and be able to use it effectivly in your body. I try to eat some sort of fruit or 100% juice a day for regularity and any kind of vegi's.......green beans(sometimes with low fat cream of mushroom or chicken soup), carrots, cauliflour, broccoli, no corn for me but any vegi that I can cook soft, not mushy. sugar free apple sauce is good and I add some extra cinnamon for added flavor. I even ate a raw tomato yesterday and a couple grapes, it all went down good. I can eat 1/2 a slice of toast and a scrambled egg, I even add a bit of cheese sometimes. At times I add a little bit of diced sugar free peaches to my cottage cheese. Just be creative. I can't eat anything concidered solid food yet either but I eat pretty much what I want as long as it is soft and no sugar or fat. Maybe I am wrong with what I am doing, but it has worked for me so far and I am loosing and feeling good too. Along with 45 mins a day of exercise. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask me anything.

I can eat about what you eat. I think it could be a blessing...so we can't eat much. I tried to eat shrimp last week and lost it. I had surgery on 11/26/07. I'm just resigned to what I can eat and thank God that I'm having no humger and losing very well. Our day will come when we wish we couldn't eat!!! Hamd in there!
I am also just over 3 months out...I told a friend the other day that I feel pretty much normal when I eat, but I just can't eat alot of it...I stay away from fibrous foods, deli meats (they got stuck early on and I am still "afraid"), and spicy things and I am fine...I even eat out in restaraunts without issue at this point...I do feel very lucky to feel this normal already, just in smaller portions....I haven't tried anything full sugar like real chocolate, but haven't had trouble with protein bars or sugar free sweets either...I am not officially certain, but I don't think I will be a dumper from what I have seen so far, but have seen a big change in the trends of what I crave..Prior to surgery I was a HUGE chocoholic/sweets kinda girl, but now if I "crave" anything it seems to be salty stuff...big change for me...
I would really look into a second opinion, unless you really like your doctor...Its possible he/she is just very conservative, but at the same time, you could be eating a better variety...Good luck to you!
I think I eat pretty normal for just having surgery on November 28th. I eat all different types of fish, shrimp, I eat veggie burgers, chicken (as long as it's not dry) cooked veggies, eggs, yogurt, baked potatoes, all kinds of foods. I'm sorry to hear you are having such a hard time! I can't believe you have a dr. *****fuses to do right by you. There's no reason he should refuse to check to see if you have a stricture! I don't know what kind of recourse there is out there, maybe you could contact your insurance provider or contact the hospital that your surgeon works for. They usually have a patient advocate there that will speak on your behalf to get you the care you deserve!!! Definitely see the hospital nutritionist and see if they can help you!!
Best of luck to you!
Tammy
My day pretty much looks like this, mealwise:
Breakfast: Protein Coco made with Soy Slender.
Lunch: 3 oz of tuna, or shrimp or salmon, 2 oz salsa, 1/4 cup sliced cucumbers
Dinner: 3 oz of seafood, 2 oz salsa, 1/4 cup steamed veggies.
If I have room at dinner, I might have a tbsp of brown rice, or couscous.
If I want a snack, I might have 1 graham cracker spread with 1 tsp smooth peanut butter.
64 oz chamomile tea/day
Sometimes I might have scrambled egg beaters or shaved deli ham for my protein.
I can't eat most chicken, I can't eat beef or pork at all. I get about 3 bites in, and it feels like it's stuck in my chest. I'm supposed to be having 3 oz protein, 1/2 cup of veggies, some grains and 1/2 cup of fruit. I just can't fit it all in. So, I make my protein my priority. I figure the rest will come in time.
