Weight loss to date?

When I report my weight loss here, I use the number that was on the scale in the hospital the day I had my surgery. If I use my starting weight back from last June when I started the program with my doctor, I've actually lost 38.5 pounds. I just figured I'd count the weight resulting from the actual surgery, which as of today is 24 pounds. I'm sorry you're so disappointed in your loss. I hope that you will be able to see the almost 20 pounds you've lost as a great achievement and I'll bet before long, you'll have another 20 to crow about. Don't give up, the surgery can't fail you, but you can fail it, so keep on trying. ~Shirley

I'm not really disappointed in what I've lost. I had a moment of sadness after reading so many 30+lb losses. I lost 18lb pre-op, so my total loss is 37 lbs, which is great. I count my loss since the weigh in right before surgery for things like this, but my grand total that I track on my ticker is the weight I re-entered the program at (which also happens to be my highest ever). I do realize that I'm doing well, that my body is different than other's, blah, blah, blah... it's just not always easy to make your brain understand. Don't you still have this urge to look in the mirror in teh morning and expect to see something very different than what you went to bed with last night? It's a case of counting chickens before they hatch. It's the thrill of Christmas Eve all over again. The big gift is hanging there right in front of your face, but you have to wait to actually get it. And in the process of waiting to get the gift, somebody is threatening that if you don't behave, you won't get it.

How funny! I HAVE been looking in the mirror just like you said! When I look though, it's almost like I'm making sure that the changes I've seen haven't mysteriously gone away. I know what you're saying about the numbers, though. Lots of people on here have weight losses much greater than mine. It's so hard to wait sometimes, but the way I'm looking at it is, if the weight comes off a little slower, maybe I've got a shot at NOT looking like the incredible melting woman after it's all done. This is the first time in my life I'm thinking that maybe this will really work, and when, not if it does, I will be at a weight I've never been at as an adult. What you said is true though; if we don't follow the plan (behave) we won't lose the weight and keep it off forever (you don't get the gift). But I don't really think of it so much this way as that this is a choice I make every single day, every single meal, to make good choices. The power is mine. ~Shirley

I count the 15 pounds I lost during my 2 week pre-op liquid diet since those were the hardest pounds I ever had to fight for. Plus, my surgeon's office counts them too. At the Week 5 Mark: Pre-op = 15 pounds Post-op= 20 pounds Total = 35 pounds Technically that was last week's weight since I only weight on Tuesdays. So that 20lbs number will likely change tomorrow morning. Last week was a bit discouraging since I'd only lost 1 pound. But I refuse to get discouraged about what the scale says. I'm feeling great, I'm wearing clothes I haven't worn in years, I bought a new shirt that is a 22 instead of a 28 and I'm happy. Those are the things that matter the most -- not the number on the dumb scale. Pam

I had surgery on 11/7 and I've lost 39 pounds to date. I was stuck for several weeks at about 25 pounds and very discouraged. Have been walking 3 days a week and will start weight training on Tues and Thurs after New Year since my doctor released me for regular exercise on 11/21. I've gone from a tight 28 jeans with spandex to a comfy 26 with no spandex. It's weird not having any stretch in the jeans!

I've only lost 10 pounds so far. 8 pounds of that in the first week and a half, 5 pounds Christmas day but I already put 3 pounds of that back on again. Not sure what's wrong but it's totally frustrating and agonizing and makes me wonder if I did the right thing in having the surgery. Hit a plateau after a week and a half and still haven't really broken it. Hugs, Ellie

My surgery was Nov 12th and to date I have lost 33Ibs. Yes it is a struggle and that looking in the mirror thing is so true sometimes. I try on my old close weekly hoping that today is the day I can wear some of them. But I guess its like that saying Good things come to those who wait!! But the waiting just seems like sooo long. Drink liquids is all I hear and nothing I drink taste good. I have to force it down and then I am nauseated for forcing it down. Protein drinks are even worse but I am waiting on the good at the end.. The healthy I have never been!!!!

I had my surgery on Nov 14th and I am only down 27lbs.(i'm over 300lbs) It is very frustrating, especially since I have been on a stall for the past 2 weeks. I am doing all that I am required.... getting in my proteins, water, exercising daily... not sure what else I can do to break this stall. It's funny, I had an easier time loosing prior to surgery than I am now. Uggggg! They never said it was going to be easy, but I didn't realize how frustrating it was going to be. I certainly don't regret having the surgery, cause I know I would have had afew serious binges over the holiday, and all my progress would have been totally lost. Okay,,, done with my rant, lol!! Happy New Year everyone!
