My name is Pam and I had gastric bypass surgery done on Nov 19th. All went well and I was home 2 days later. Unfortunately here I sit at the hospital again with my trustly laptop looking over this site. Two of my incison got infected...well one right after surgery and I was put on antibiotics but when the second one got infected despite being on antibiotics they decided to admit me ...worrying about MRSA infections....I am hooked up to the big guns of antibiotic...vancomycin. I am responding well to it ...this is my second day. I should be able to go home tommorrow. I have felt great since day one..no issues can hold all the water protein drinks etc with no issue whatsoever. No pain or anything and the best part....I have lost 32lbs in the three weeks since the surgery. I have my first re check with the nutrisionist tommorrow and should get to go to pureed...YAY. I am pretty tired of the protien drinks it will be nice to have some new flavors. It is weird aside form the obvious wound infection and only drinking meals...I do not even feel like I had surgery. I can drink as much as I want and have yet to have any stomach issue. I live in Massachusetts and would love to get to compare stories with someone in my area or just someone who is at the same point as me. Anyone care to show me around here...there is so much on this sight it is overwhelming Pam

Hi Pam! Congratulations on your surgery and the 32 lbs! Sorry to hear about the infections and having to be stuck at the hospital. At least you've got your laptop to keep you occupied. I totally understand how you feel about not feeling like we had surgery. Some days I feel the same way. But then I go out Christmas shopping and am worn out after a few hours and need a nap.... guess the body still knows what's going on. Welcome to the board! Pam

Hi Pam- My name is Jenn and I am also from Massachusetts and had my RNY on 11/19/07...I too have felt great...After 10 days I felt 90% normal...even went back to work on Dec. 3rd with little to no problems...I have transitioned to ground proteins and that has made a world of difference in my stamina...I just got back from my first support group meeting and got a lot out of it even though I never thought I would need such a thing...I hope you get released and heal up soon! ~Jenn

Hi Pam, I hope you are home now and on the road to recovery - I too am from MA and had RNY on 11/14/07 - didn't feel like I had surgery at all - have lost 23 pounds and am on regular RNY diet with protein supplements - I am also getting used to this site but have found it very helpful as I go through stages of diet etc. Keep us posted and hope all is going well - Marie
