I quit smoking a month before my first doctor's appointment for Lapband surgery. I knew I had to quit to be eligible, so I did, cold turkey. It was REALLY hard, especially since my daughter and her husband smoke, and I visit her 4 or 5 times a week (she lives 3 miles away). It's been 8 months, and I don't "crave" smoking anymore, but honestly, I do still miss it. But, I'm doing this surgery for my health and my future, so no more smokes. I kept a pack at home...I was afraid I would break down and go out and buy a pack, and then (of course) I would have to smoke them, but since I already had a pack here, I could just look at them and say, "Nah, it's not worth it". Besides, my doc threatened to take a random blood sample to make sure I wasn't cheating. It's tough, but what are you gonna do?
Best of luck to you on your quickly arriving surgery!
Judith
Hi there,
I was a smoker...I quit the first of Aug. I knew I had to in order to have my surgery (Tue. Nov 13th is my big day) I used Chantix and it really worked! I also chewed gum. It was only a struggle mind wise for me....other than that all was ok. Good luck on your upcoming surgery...keep the faith!
