Hi Cathy, I start my liquid diet tomorrow. My Dr. wants us to only drink Slim Fast High Protein or Boost High Protein/Glucose control. No others. I don't know why, I was just told no subsitutions. Anyway...hope this helps, Layla

Hi Cathy! My surgery is also Nov. 7th!! Even though my surgeon doesn't require any sort of pre-op diet I've decided to start today w/ 2 meals of protein shakes and 1 meal of good veggies and a protein. It looks like my calorie intake will be 1200 or less for the day...so far so good. I am getting a bit hungry now and have a slight headache (I'm sure it's sugar withdrawl!) I may have to go grab a yogurt or something to tie me over until I make my dinner. (Grilled chicken breast with steamed brocolli and cauliflower...yum!) I'm using "sparkpeople.com" to keep track of every bite (or drop) that goes into my mouth. I'd love to drop at 10 lbs before surgery. Good luck to you! Heather

Hi Cathy: I haven't gotten my kit yet, but my surgeon's office requires patients to buy their 15-day liquid diet food kit. I will be having 3 protein shakes per day, some soup (not sure how many servings per day - probably just 1) and I'll also get some high-fiber drink mix packets. I did a quick google search and found this site... it gives a list of suggested foods for both full liquids and clear liquids. A lot of this list is definitely not diet or sugar free - so you'll have to adjust it to fit those restrictions. Part of the reason for the liquid diet is to help us ween ourselves off the sugar and carb addiction so it won't be such a huge adjustment after surgery. I copied part of the website here for you: http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uvahealth/hub_cancer/clfllqds.cfm Full liquids include the following: all fruit juices and nectar ice milk small amounts of strained meat butter/cream/oil/margarine carbonated beverages cheese soup coffee/tea fresh or frozen plain yogurt fruit drinks fruit punch honey/jelly/syrup liquid supplements milk, all types milkshake pasteurized eggnog plain cornstarch pudding plain gelatin desserts potatoes pureed in soup refined/strained cooked cereal in broth or gelatin smooth ice cream soft or baked custard strained lemonade/limeade strained or blenderized soup thin fruit purees tomato juice tomato puree for cream soup vegetable juice Good luck! Hi Cathy! I start my liquid diet on Friday for sx on Nov 2. My doc said the same about the Boost/Glucerna/slim Fast. The glucerna is really good in the Butter Pecan. Other than that he said sugar free jello, sf pudding, diet soda, unsweetened tea, ect. The only thing he put a limit on was 2 of the shakes per meal. Hope this helps! Good luck! Bambi

Hi all... I was going to post the same question... Liquid Diet prior to surgery? I am scheduled for Nov. 1st, and have started a liquid protein diet this past Thursday. We have a list of protein products that we can use, I believe they all have to be clear liquids. I am drinking ISO-Pure (ready to drink) from the Vitamin Store and GNC. The cost is about $3.50 a 20 oz. bottle. I also can drink Cyto-pure... the Watermelon is my favorite and Grape Ice is my favorite for Iso-pure. They are 0 Carb, 0 Fat. Anyway, we have to have at least 3 drinks a day up to as many as we want. I can also drink Crystal light Iced Tea and of course water. I'm supposed to get in at least 64 oz. of water each day. Thats kind of hard, because I drink the protein drinks, (i do add some water to them because the flavors are very strong (thick) sometimes). I have heard of some people who said they had to do liquids for 2 weeks prior to surgery. But I look at it this way... #1: this is what the first few weeks post-op will be like, although I know we won't really feel like drinking anything or just taking sips. #2 It's not like I will NEVER be able to EAT again. It is just temporary, but it does suck (sorry) when your kid comes in with pizza, or fast food and still is a size 0! #3 I am doing this for no one but myself, and I am worth it! But all the same, It would be nice to have someone to commiserate with... Good luck Cathy- I will be pulling for you on the 7th. Hopefully I willl be out of the hospital and home by then. Lets keep in touch since our dates are so close to each others... anyone else too. Please lets support our other November Surgery Dates.... Sue from Chgo
