Valorie,
What a wonderful post!!! My smile got bigger and bigger the more I read of it!! YEA!!!!! YEA!!! Valorie, pat yourself on the back and give yourself a high 5!!! I'm so happy for you. Despite the horrible tragedy, you are doing fantastic! Stress be darned, huh? Great job on avoiding the doughnuts! Room to spare in a 10 (and I'll bet you could wear 8s if you had tried!) and FANTASTIC job on keeping track of your food, keeping the calories down AND getting almost all good carbs in (hey, we all need a little decadence - LOL, like 100 calories bags of snacks are decadent!!)

Corinna,
You sure are able to keep those calories low!!!! I don't think I've been able to keep them that low for MONTHS AND MONTHS!!!! Don't go TOO low though. As you know, that can slow down the metabolism. I'm always so shocked how fast my calories add up even when I think I'm doing well. Preplanning works wonders, of course!!! That's another goal.....!!!!

Valorie,
Yep, I like things hot and spicy. I liked them that way before and I sure do now! I like FLAVOR!!! I remember drinking spicy hot V8 juice very shortly after surgery and thinking it was SO GOOD! Then, I read that I shouldn't be having anything like that for a while!
My Dutch husband whose mother cooks so blandly that the food has NO taste has been converted to spicier food! He can even eat Pad Thai closer to the way I like it now!

I definitely go for spicier food than I used to. Like you I like the additional flavor in the small amount of food I eat. I imagine that if you were harming your stomach it would let you know. You'd have heartburn and other things that happen when you eat something that doesn't agree with our new plumbing. Plus, like you said, it's small portions so it's not like you're eating a huge plate of five star phad thai.
My biggest craving that I never had before is for fruits and veggies. I don't think I had ever actually had real cravings before but now I do. I sometimes can't think of anything but biting into a juicy piece of fruit or a salad. I'm sure it's something to do with vitamins I need although my bloodwork shows everything is quite normal.
anyway if you're concerned that you might be causing damage just ask your surgeon next time you go in. You might even be able to do a little research on line to see how spicy foods can affect your stomach. I know it's a little different for us but you might be able to get an idea of how much is too much.

I totally know what you mean! And once I do give in it's even harder to stop. I have to keep telling myself that at least I am having the discussions with my weaker self. Before I wouldn't have even thought about it other than a passing, oh I probably shouldn't eat this, and would have eaten it. So if I win a good percentage of these battles with myself I have to figure I'm doing pretty good. We all knew WLS wasn't a magic pill that would make the mental side of our problem go away *sigh*. So one day at a time is a good plan!
Good job on the working out and water!!

Post Op- I like a lot of spicy foods. I add hot sauce, jalapeno, or any kind of pepper to about anything I eat. Basically, I eat small portions so I want my food as flavor packed as possible.
Did anyone else change in this way? I never wanted anything spicy before WLS.
Is it harmful in any way to my pouch to consume all of this spice?
Hugs,
Valorie

Hey Shawn and group,
I haven't gotten my book yet either. But, I am planning on attending. I had read the first few chapters prior to the fire so I think I will be ok.
Good reminder Shawn, even if you can't attend.
Hugs,
Val
