Before I had my RNY I had to see a GI doc for testing and I found it very interesting that even the guy my surgeon recommended wasn't a fan of RNY. He was pretty careful not to completely dis it but you could tell from his comments that he didn't really approve of it as a procedure and basically said that most GI docs don't. I'm sure they feel slighted because they feel like that is their domain and how dare some other surgeon come in a mess with their intestines
Good luck to you!

Hi Stefanie! Welcome back and congrats on the great weightloss!!
Grazing is the bane of my life these days. If I let myself pick at food all day I can easily eat 2000 calories. So I pretty much have to limit myself to several small planned meals a day. It really helps keep me at a stable weight. I've also completely stopped loosing at 155. No matter what I do and how strict I am with diet and exercise I don't loose anything more. I've resigned myself to the fact that this is where my body would like to stay. It's more of a struggle now than it was and I have to watch what I eat these days but I think I'm getting into a good groove.
As for types of food, I still have to be very careful with sugar and I still can't eat a ton of meat unless it's ground beef or ground turkey. I try to stay between 1000 and 1500 calories per day...usually more toward the 1000 end. I also am still getting in two protien shakes per day, otherwise my protien levels definitely drop off and it shows up in my blood work.

Debbie - when I feel like that - and yes it happens to us all! My doctor has me do what he calls a time out. Depending on how long he has us on it. It will be three protein drinks a day (all over 20 grams of protein) and all the crystal ligh****er we want - it he puts us on it for more than two weeks it is two protein drinks and a salad. It is hard to do but it works. You will loose - which helps keep me motivated. It is amazing how small you stomach feels after a little of that. Also -- I hate it - I mean HATE it. He has me monitoring my weight daily and if I go over a certain weight I go on the time out --- well let me tell you I avoid getting to that point.
Remember caffiene is an appitite stimulant and blocks the absorbtion of calcium.
To me the planning/tracking food is the key. If I am having a problem at all that it what I go back to. Writing it down has such an effect on me.
Good luck - you are not alone!

Hello! I am the type of person who sees the glass 1/2 full (not 1/2 empty) but lately I am at my wit's end and am getting tired of the runaround from my doctors. My RNY gastric bypass was 11/2006, done in NC. Due to my husband's relocation for work, we moved 2-weeks post op. I flew back to Charlotte for my 6-month post-op checkup. I still have not found a surgeon to follow my gastric bypass in NH. I am almost at my 2-yr post op mark. I am having GI issues and found a GI doctor in Nashua (where I live). I have been going through test after test only to find that my iron level is very low. There may be a problem witht he valve leading from the bladder and I have three new ulcers in the colon. And I thought child birth was the most degrading and embarrassing thing! Who knew! I continue to take vitamin after vitamin and all of my medication (I have fibromyalgia, arthritis & high blood pressure). With my weight loss, I was able to stop CPAP, no longer have high cholesterol and all of the other issues were resolved. I truly believe my RNY was the best thing for me. I work part time with no benefits. Thank God for my husband's job, since we get health benefits from there. I wish someone would get on board and open communication with the bariatric surgeon community and GI and PCPs. Now that I've had my say, I hope you all have a great day. Better yet, let's make it a better day! Thanks, Deb

Topic: Hi Everyone!
Wow, it's been a long time since I have checked in. I have been so super busy with work, and when I get time to getting online, it's never on a Monday. So I've decided that I just need to get on here and write, regardless if it was Monday or not.
Henry and I had our 1 year recommitment ceremony and completed our handfasting. It was a very special ceremony.
I've been doing really well energy wise. Working a ton of overtime. I had a recent check up with my PCP and she ordered a bunch of bloodwork. I'm still waiting on the results. But I feel great. I've bumped up a few pounds and seem to be steady at 117 lbs. I am happy at this weight, and I don't look nearly as bony as I did last year at this weight.
So, that's about it for me. Not much news. Oh, except Henry is a grandpa again! Guess that makes me a step-grandma. We are hoping to get back to NJ to see them later this year. Oh, I do have one more bit of really good information too. Henry got his electrical license and has a job as an electrician now! Woo hoo! I can't wait for some $$ to start paying off some bills. Whew!
