Topic: Really...over a year since last post
Hello all, can you believe it's been 6 years since we all had weight loss surgery. Everyone left including me for awhile. But needed support for loosing 20 regain pounds so here I am. I've been trying to diet traditionaly but it's not working....I'll never forget my surgeon asking me what I ate that morning for breakfast back 6 years ago when in his office I told him oatmeal and he shakes his head and told me to eat a few slices of bacon...lol when will I learn...so back to the protein and trying to stay away from these evil carbs and sugars. Hope you all are doing better than me.

Hi everyone! I haven't been on the boards in ages but have been feeling down about my weight gain and wanted to see how everyone else was doing and see if I could get some help on the site. So, here I am again. I have gained about 25 lbs in the last couple of years and really want to get rid of it and get back on track.

On a good note, I finally quit smoking 100 days ago!!!!! I'm so happy about that but don't like the way I am constantly snacking because of it.

I had elbow surgery in April and have been so lazy in getting back to the gym. My son and I are trying to work out together but it is usually hit or miss.

I am definitely going to be on the boards more often and seek out the support I need.

Hello All...  I just got my Happy Anniversary email from Eric & was shocked, I thought I would never forget this day..but again it slipped my mind.
I am enjoying a busy active life. My marriage is getting a little better. I am struggling with weight gain, about 20 pounds. I have been very depressed over, but I am over it & going to quit feeling sorry for myself & do something about it, before it gets out of hand...again.
So I just wanted to say a quick Hello to All of us November 2006'ers.  Hope you are are happy & well.
I  also wanted to say something I just learned... I takes effort & a mind change to "make" yourself happy... I never looked at it this way before, but it has helped me.

Congrats to all my November 2006 Surgery family.  I can see the board is still as "active" as ever.  LOL.  Just got my "Happy Surgiversary" letter from Eric Klein, so I figure I may as well stop in and see what's shakin' here

I sinerely hope all is well for everyone and you're just busy living life fully, and with vitality.

For me, I'm still fighting the same hormonal imbalances, but we're getting closer.  I've maintained my weight loss but it's not without struggle.

I did finally do my first Half Ironman and hopefully after an extended tummy tuck, I'll be doing my first full Ironman in 2012.  Coach wants to write my story up and submit it to win a Kona slot!  LOL

My Daughter just turned 6 the end of September and started Kindergarten.  :)

I am well.  Family is well.  Hope you all are well too!

Donna

Topic: RE: Who's Gaining Weight Back?
I have started a log again and that does help.  I told my husband I am not buying any more "junk" food for him as I end up eating it.  He doesn't need it either at 350 pounds.  He had major surgery in July to remove an infected hip prostheses, and so he needs help with even the simplest of things.  I come home form work and have to feed, bathe and assist him in every way.  It is getting a bit better, but I have no escape from it, I need to get to the gym, but can't afford to go. They do have an indoor walking track at our park district for residents at no cost, so am planning to start that this week.    I am very worried as I really don't want to go back on insulin.  We have had so much going on, my husbands surgery, so far 5 trips to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota this year, financial worry, my mother in law is very ill and I do her shopping and such, my son got into trouble and moved back home, my sister's husband passed away from Cancer leaving her with a 4 year old to raise..  Hopefully 2011 will be a better year, but I am trying to take control now.

Thanks for the support and insight.  I need to start searching for support again, it was so key that first 2 years..

God Bless,
Sandy

Hi Sandy! Thanks for writing back and sorry you are in the weight gain mode. I will tell you that I was thrilled to get to "maintenance" but it is a full time job to "maintain". I was on a diabetes med that immediately caused weight gain but since my A1C went down to 6.8 the doctor let me stop it and i lost 4 lbs. I am at the gym all the time but I still have a terrible snack habit and a craving for chocolate. I still only eat sugar free or very low sugar like dark chocolate but I eat it too often and see how the calories add up. I think the fact that we are conscious of our eating is a help. However, a 35 lbs weight gain is a real cause for concern. Stress is a huge part of this and I too can attest to it. I too have a sick husband (Parkinson's) work related stress, stress with my mom and her financial affairs, and worries about my kids, etc. I run a bariatric support group which helps. You need to get on track immediately. Get a good dietician to help you, write down everything you eat and get rid of all your trigger foods. Prepare healthy unprocessed foods and watch your calorie count....get moving in the gym or find an activity you like that can burn calories. I wish you lots of luck! (South Beach is a great diet for bariatrics)

Dear Sheri,

I logged in tonight for the first time in a VERY long time since the board went inactive...  I was going to post the very same question.  I have had a horrible year, gaining back 35 pounds in 18 months!  My blood sugars are creeping back up and I am afrain of having to go back on insulin.  I have had a lot of stress in my life, husbands health terrible, and my biggest trigger is stress, so I find I am snacking all the time.  Unfortunately, nothing causes dumping syndrome with me, I can eat ice cream, sweets, chocolate, you name it.  I know it is bad, bad bad and I feel awful.  Really miss not being active on the lists like I was the first year after my surgery.  Trying to watch the between meals stuff, but it's tough.  I am at the computer now because I was laying in bed thinking of how I wanted something to eat!  Couldn't sleep...

Hope you get back under control, wish I would have started whtn I only creeped up a few pounds like you are doing.

Good Luck,

Sandy
