I like it hot!
Post Op- I like a lot of spicy foods. I add hot sauce, jalapeno, or any kind of pepper to about anything I eat. Basically, I eat small portions so I want my food as flavor packed as possible.
Did anyone else change in this way? I never wanted anything spicy before WLS.
Is it harmful in any way to my pouch to consume all of this spice?
Hugs,
Valorie
I definitely go for spicier food than I used to. Like you I like the additional flavor in the small amount of food I eat. I imagine that if you were harming your stomach it would let you know. You'd have heartburn and other things that happen when you eat something that doesn't agree with our new plumbing. Plus, like you said, it's small portions so it's not like you're eating a huge plate of five star phad thai.
My biggest craving that I never had before is for fruits and veggies. I don't think I had ever actually had real cravings before but now I do. I sometimes can't think of anything but biting into a juicy piece of fruit or a salad. I'm sure it's something to do with vitamins I need although my bloodwork shows everything is quite normal.
anyway if you're concerned that you might be causing damage just ask your surgeon next time you go in. You might even be able to do a little research on line to see how spicy foods can affect your stomach. I know it's a little different for us but you might be able to get an idea of how much is too much.

Valorie,
Yep, I like things hot and spicy. I liked them that way before and I sure do now! I like FLAVOR!!! I remember drinking spicy hot V8 juice very shortly after surgery and thinking it was SO GOOD! Then, I read that I shouldn't be having anything like that for a while!
My Dutch husband whose mother cooks so blandly that the food has NO taste has been converted to spicier food! He can even eat Pad Thai closer to the way I like it now!
