I'm confused about fiber. I thought fiber was good for everybody, but I read recently that wls people should avoid fiber. Anbody know anything about this?

It wasn't an article. It was a discussion on one of the other boards. I think it might have been on the main board. A few people responded to the poster saying that we should avoid fiber. I'm not sure if there is a way to do a word search and find the post or not.
I absolutely MUST have fiber or I get terribly constipated (sorry if that's TMI) which I never was before. If I avoided it I'd be miserable!!! For awhile I even had to take fiber supplements. Now I just make sure I get a lot of it in my regular diet. I wonder why they would say to avoid it. I'd love to read the article too if you still have it.

It was members of Obesity Help that said it in a post. They didn't say why to avoid fiber. I assumed maybe it was gas producing. Any carbs are gas producing for me, so if I have to do any public speaking or know that I will be in a meeting for a prolonged period of time I eat protein only until it's over! I take Devrom routinely to control the odor, but I don't think it will control the production of gas. Talk about TMI! That's more info than you care to know, I'm sure!

Actually, how interesting that you mention this. I've recently (last four months or so) have started having a lot more gas than I ever did. I'm super sensative to malitol, which I never was before, any dried fruit, nuts to a certain extent. They produce huge amounts of gas. Most of the time it's oderless (thank God!!!) but I get terribly bloated and it's painful and embarrassing because of course it's still noisy
Anyway, do you do anything else to control the actual gas? And what is devrom? I use the gas x strips and they help some.

Devrom is a chewable tablet that neutralizes gas odors. It's made for people that have had bypass surgery or have a colostomy. Check out devrom.com. If you are consistent in taking it, it does work.

If you have constipation problems, try taking Magnesium. I started taking it for bone health, but an added benefit is that I'm never constipated anymore!
