Cherry Pits

OMG I swallowed a cherry pit just now and am totally freaking out about it. I don't even swallow any pills whole anymore. I called my surgeon's office and they said it shouldn't be an issue but if I start feeling weird call them right away. Who (above the age of 5) swallows cherry pits for crying out loud. I don't think I've ever done that before in my life. I'm sure I'm freaking out about nothing...I can't imagine it's big enough to actually get stuck but still...yikes! Corinna Q

Corinna, I have just one question! Was it a Mount Rainier cherry pit? I finally found some today and it's a miracle I haven't swallowed one yet!!! Well, as someone who has swallowed whole BIG pills since before I got out of the hospital, I'm hoping you won't have any trouble. Of course, those pills dissolve! Still, pay attention but I'm hoping you won't have any problem! Hey, how did you manage to do that? It's funny but Monday something reminded me of when I was five years old and swallowed a watermelon seed. Another kid told me a watermelon was going to grow in my tummy and I was so scared that I ran into the house and burst straight into the bathroom where my mother was taking a bath. God, that scared me about as much as the fear of a watermelon seed! I saw her pubic hair probably for the first time!!!!! So, isn't it strange that about 50 years later I had my almos****ermelon sized tummy cut off?????? Maybe that seed did grow into a watermelon!!!!!!!! Good luck, Corinna! CeCe

Lol! Too funny. I think this was a prime reminder of why I now eat SLOWLY. I was enjoying them too much and it just slid right down. 18 months later I still have to remind myself to slow down!!! The cherries are bing. The Mt Rainier are almost $9 a pound here in washington. Apparently the cold spring decimated most of the cherry crops in California and Washington. I work for a regional office at Whole Foods Market these days so I get all kinds of weird information about salmon runs and cherry crops Anyway, no troubles and I'm guessing by now it's gone through my stomach so I'm thinking I'm good. Ok - I'm enjoying cherry's now too but have managed to avoid swallowing the bit. I do swallow pills without a problem. I have a friend who had the surgery and swallowed her gum. I regularly chew gum for 30 min after I eat and so does she. She was freeking out - much like you Corinna - she was like I never swallow my gum - what happened? Anyway the gum passed and didn't block her stoma - my guess is that things don't happen in a bad way much more often than they do ---- we just hear about the times they go bad. Cecd - we were always told that a watermelon was going to grow out our ears if we swallowed the seed ( or out the belly button) but never actually in us. Funny the things we tell kids... Good for a smile today - - thank you.
