Before surgery people have to fast for at least 8 hours. I think the reason for this is to prevent vomiting due to anesthesia. Since our food empties out of the pouch in about an hour, why do we have to fast like regular people? I had to fast the entire day yesterday before my surgery and my surgery kept getting pushed back. They finally started on me at 7:15 pm! It just got me thinking... Wanda

Wanda, I posted a reply to this thread last night and I see it didn't "take!" I don't know the answer to your question but my response was one of shock that you weren't operated on until 7:15 at night! That's amazing. I can't imagine how frustrated and starving you must have been by then. Not only that, the surgeon must have been exhausted. If he's operating in the evening like that, he's too busy!!! CeCe

That's exactly why I think my outcome was less than desirable. I was their 15th surgery of the day! I have a list of bad things that happened there during my ordeal. I won't whine about all the details, but I won't be back for any more surgeries. I made an appointment with my PCP to see if she thinks I need to seek another plastic surgeon to fix my issues or if she thinks I might heal ok. I just didn't need to deal with this right now. I got stuck working a 12 hour day today. I don't have time for this self-inflicted pain that I put myself through.

OMG! What a nightmare for you. Starving, dehydrated and waiting till 7:30 pm. You are strong. I probably would have gotten up and left. Just knowing that the Dr was that overbooked would have freaked me out. How could he possibly be fresh enough for a surgery after 14 previous in one day? No wonder you have been going nuts thinking that something was/is wrong. Like I said, you are one strong lady! I don't have the answer to your first question but I have thought about it many times myself. Fasting for most reasons except spiritual ones, seems pointless to me post WLS. As you said, our stomach empties and the food is well into our intestines within an hour. If you are anything like me, I can actually feel the food moving through. Some days I could swear I feel every inch of movement till it hits my colon. It is a very strange feeling too. Many weird noises, gurgeling and growling accompany the movement. If you find an answer, code us in please. Inquiring minds want to know. Hugs, Valorie

It's weird that you said that you can feel the food move along the digestive track. The other day I felt a bulge. It freaked me out at first because I thought it must be a hernia. Then it seemed to move along and I realized that it could be food in my intestine. This was after I over-ate which made me realize that I could be doing harm to myself. Freaky!
