Randy and I are thinking of asking my daughter if we can raise my 10-year-old grandson. We think it's the only chance he will become a decent young man. Are we nuts? How many times have I said I love being this age with no kids at home?
This is a tough decision!

Wanda,
What a tough decision. If you are considering it, the reasons must be justified. Listen to your heart but don't forget to balance that with good planning and reasoning. It won't be easy. Having been a social worker (child protective services), I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. It will take patience and wisdom but I know you have both! Get him all the services you can possibly find and keep him busy!

I don't think you are off your rocker just yet. Take it from a Mom who started completely over with a new born at the age of 39. My husband was 44 and this was his first! It is a huge decision and one that I know you will consider long and hard before you make it. Well, knowing you, maybe not to LONG anyway. You and Randy know what is in your hearts and what you can handle. If you think you can give up SOME of your mobility and you know this will be the best thing for the child, then I see NO reason not to do it. Don't even consider age as a factor. You know how healthy you are now. WLS and your hard work has given you at least 50 more years!
I will say a prayer for you to make the best decision for everyone.
Hugs,
Valorie
