I have a friend who had gastric bypass August 2007 and she isn't doing good. She wanted this surgery since 2004 and had finally had it and regrets it. She has lost 100Ibs so far but she will not drink or eat enough. She says she can't stand being around food and wishes she didn't have the surgery. She told her surgeon she can't eat so he did an endoscopy and didn't find anything wrong with her, so he did a lapascopic surgery on her this week to make sure nothing was wrong with her bowel and still didn't find anything wrong with her. I scared for her, she doesn't look good and still won't eat or drink enough. I suggested to her Mother for her to seek physcartary help but she said her insurance won't cover it. What can I do to help her? I've know her since childhood and am worried about her heath. Thanks, Pattie

I'm sorry that your friend isn't doing well. It sounds as if she doesn't want to eat as opposed to not being able to eat. If that is correct, she definitely needs to seek the help of a mental health professional. Hopefully she doesn't let the lack of insurance coverage stop her. Sometimes we just have to self-pay. Help her see that she is worth it! We wouldn't think twice about self-paying to save the life our one of our children, but we never consider doing the same for ourself! I'm glad that you are there for her. It sounds like she needs a friend right now. Wanda

Pattie, How sad for her. Does her surgeon's office have a full service program? Does she go to support groups? Is there a dietition on the surgeon's staff? She need counseling on how important it is to get the nurtrients in. Sounds like she may be suffering from depression or grieving over the changes. Even if her insurance won't pay for counseling, try to find out if there are agencies in town who charge on a sliding scale or offer supervised counseling. Licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) and other counselors have to do about 400 hours of supervised counseling before getting their license and that is cheaper. She needs help so she can enjoy her tool like we are! CeCe
