My WOW moment that took 16+ years!
Let me explain. When my daughter was born in October of 1989, my husband and I were both in the Navy. He went on a 6 month deployment in March, leaving me with a full time job and an infant. Well, the Navy gives women 6 months to get back in shape and have a BMI of under 30 so I worked really hard at losing the baby weight. I joined NutriSystem and worked out all the time on base (our command let us go PT in the mornings when we got to work). Well, when my husband came home from his deployment in September I was looking great and feeling great. That Christmas I bought a dress that I just loved and looked like a million dollars in it. Mind you, we didn't have any money for that but I felt like I was worth it and so did my husband. It was a purple suede dress that zipped up the front. Very form-fitting. Anyway, I wore it and I looked really good. Everyone in my family commented on how good I looked which made me feel so good. Well, quite a few years ago when I started gaining weight again I came across that dress in my closet. I didn't have the heart to get rid of it and I told myself that one day I would wear it again. For the last year I have put it on occasionally just to see my progress. Then I forgot about it for about the last few months. I saw it last night and thought "What the heck. Let me see what happens." You guessed it - IT FIT! I couldn't believe it. It zipped right up and I must say it looked really good on me. Granted, it is a bit out of style now but there is no way I'm getting rid of that dress! I finally made it. I finally reached one of my long-standing goals. I was laughing and crying when I realized it was going to fit me. I just couldn't believe it. So, that is my 16+ year WOW moment. It makes me feel so good to know that I actually accomplished one of my goals.
Just wanted to share with everyone. I hope everyone has a great day.

Your story brought tears to me eyes! I'm so proud of you! I know you must be feeling great. Good job!

Susan,
I loved reading this message!!! Hey, who cares if the dress is out of style! Like someone said, it may come back and even if it doesn't, it's a milestone dress. I have saved 2 of my very large tops. The first is one from my highest weight. I had pictures made after losing 100 pounds "wearing" that top and it's hilarious! Then, after losing 124 pounds, I regained about 60. I then save the top I was wearing in my "before" WLS photo from my surgeon's office. It's now TOTALLY ridiculous on me! You know what????? I just thought of a possible WOW moment for myself from 34 years ago!!!! On 2 February my husband and I celebrated our 34th anniversary! My mother had saved my wedding dress and I have it in a box in my closet! I haven't even thought about trying it on since WLS. I couldn't dream of fitting in it before! Susan, thanks for your inspiring message because it has inspired me to dig out my wedding dress!!! CONGRATS, Susan and GREAT GOING! By the way, were you guys ever stationed in Norfolk? That's very, very near me!

Thanks, CeCe! Sounds like you have your own WOW moment in the making! You need to try on your wedding dress. It's probably going to be too big for you now, you look so good.
Yes, we were stationed in Norfolk from 1989 until I got out i***** I liked the area a lot but I either had to find a new job or move to Charleston so I moved. I like it here also - it puts me a lot closer to my Mom (she lives in Myrtle Beach).
Have a great week and let us know what happens with the dress!!!!

Susan,
I did try on the dress and it fit lousy!!! I probably weigh close to the same but I think I have more muscle and I sure don't fill it out. It was too long and just looked terrible. I also didn't fill it out on top! I tried it on again when hubby got home and he laughed!
We were here when you were stationed at Norfolk! We might have run across each other at one point or another! We live on the peninsula but we are Southside for lots of stuff including trips to the Naro theater iin Norfolk. We run from Chesapeake to Williamsburg in search of great shopping and restaurants!
Again, thanks for the inspiration to try on the wedding dress. Anyone else have any delayed WOW moments?
