I'm in the hospital

For malabsorption. I ended up collapsing Monday night and falling down a flight of stairs. When i called my PCP yesterday, she asked me to come in. When I got there, she said she wanted to admit me. I was shaking really bad, and have been for a few days. And my BP was 98/63. Not good. The BP went back up to normal after I had rested. So I've been here since yesterday afternoon. And the only thing they have done is hook me up to an IV with potassium, and taken a stool sample. I spoke with the admitting dr. about a plan, and she is getting a gastroenterologist involved, and I'm supposed to have a bunch of tests. But I don't know what tests, or when. I just sit here waiting. No one seems to know anything. It's like pulling teeth to eat around here too. You'd think that a person admitted for malabsorption and excessive weight loss would be given food all the time. But I barely got dinner last night, and only after I begged for 1-1/2 hours. And no breakfast this morning because they needed me fasting for something. I finallly got my breakfast, warmed over and stale at 9:30. The dietitician came in and got me set up on 3 snacks a day too, which were supposed to start 1/2 hour ago. Bet I have to beg for those too. They weighed me when I got here, fully clothed. 101.8. This morning, after all day/night of IV, I'm 101.6. My PCP is trying to get ahold of my surgeon and get a surgery report. She reached him yesterday, but he was in surgery and said he couldn't get it to her until today. I think he's avoiding me. Luckily, Henry brought my laptop to me today so I don't go stir crazy. So here I sit, and wait. I'll give updates as I have them.

Sorry to hear about that...I hope that everything works out. I know its tough because I am very impatient especially when in a hospital or dealing with doctors so I can relate to the frustration you are feeling. Just hang in there I am sure everything will work itself out.

This can actually be a blessing. Things just couldn't continue the way they were. I hope they are able to identify the issue and get it corrected. Good luck and keep in touch.

OMG Kim!!!! My heart goes out to you.... I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. At least you are finally (hopefully) in a place where they will take care of you and get you all patched up and doing better soon. You have been on my mind and in prayers. I will continue to pray for you. Stay strong and get your hubby to bring you in food if they will not feed you as often as you need to eat. I can't believe that they are not right on top of getting you food as you need it... That just amazes me... Keep us posted on how you are doing... I will be checking in regularly to see if you have updated us... Take care sweetie.... HUGS, Shawn M.

Awwww Kim...I'm sorry that your going threw this I hope everything works out for the best soon.I know what it's like having annoying care, especially the whole food thing. When I was in they had no clue what to even feed a WLS patient and I was in the same hospital as the surgery..go figure..but,as my surgeon said I was in a different area so they where unaware..Was awful . Now if I remember correctly I read a post from you in a different area stating you may possibly have celiac spruce?? If this is correct make sure they do the testing..from reading your posts you fall right in that category.Number one is malabsorption.Granted some of the symptoms are the same we can experience from wls..yours is extreme so really be checked on this.If you need any info on this subject do ask..My father in law has had this now for almost 12 years (well since diagnosis) . I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

Kim, I'm actually kind of relieved that you are finally getting the attention you need right now to figure out what is going on with your body. I don't like the way you are being treated though - grrr...! But hopefully the doctors will run the right tests and get you all fixed up! I'm praying for you and your family. If you need anything please do not hesitate to ask! My cell number is 843-364-0995 if you just want to talk. Hugs, Susan
