Am I the ONLY ONE?

I know I have been very bad about keeping in touch. I am 9 mo's out from RNY & have only lost 45 lbs. I have hit a severe depression. Is it or is it not true our window of losing truly is only 1 year? Why is this happening to me? In the beginning I would dump, but now nothing. I exercise 45 minutes at least 6 days a week. However, I seem to be hungry every minute of the day now. Why? Is it possible to go back in & have the surgery again? Maybe they screwed up on mine & didn't make my pouch small enough? 45 lbs...Most of you have transformed completely, I on the other hand may get a "you look different every now & then.".....Or maybe someone I haven't seen in a year might say oh you lost a little weight didn't you? I am thouroughly disgusted with myself. Seriously, am I the ONLY ONE this has happened to? Such a small weight loss......45 lbs (which I pretty much lost in the 1st 4-5 mo's). Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel like crying every day (yes, I am on something-Paxil). Of course, my sister seems to think that Paxil is hindering my weight loss? Doubt that....Since millions of people are on Paxil & they don't struggle with weight. Ok, thanks for letting me vent. Yes, I know I need to be faithful to these boards but it is really hard to hear about everyone's success stories. Yes, I am happy for you all but at the same time I am wondering why not me as well. .....Thanks for listening.....

((((((((Holly)))))))))) I am so sorry you are going through this... I can't even imagine how I would deal with such a thing.. Have you met with your surgeon and your NUT and talked to them about this... I guess it is possible that they didn't make your pouch small enough or didn't by pass enough intestine, but that is something you would have to discuss with your surgeon... It is possible that the paxil is stopping your weight loss... we had change my meds around because of that... You may need a different med... I truly feel for you and my heart goes out to you... I hope you are feeling better soon and the weight loss begins again for you... Stay connected on the board... it is a great support system... HUGS to you, Shawn M.

Shawn said everything that I would have said. Is is extremely important that your doctor and nutritionist evaluate you so they can determine the cause. I'm sorry that you are going through this.

Let me first say Im sorry your still struggling.(Nothing here is pended to be medical advice only mine so do seek advice from your dr.) Ok lets see..depression...I think most of us have been at this stage at this point..could just be the normal..but talk to your dr. As far as the window of loosing..I have been told it's anywhere from 12-18 months..but if you work your pouch like your suppose to you can always mantain and loose with it. Exercise..well there are mix things on this subject..for me..I truley believe in an article I actually read on OH about it.First off remember exercise can add muscle and muscle weighs more...but back to what I was going to say..Exercising to me is not a tool of loosing weight it's a tool of staying in shape.(wish I had the page I would post it) Being hungry all the time..sounds like you are fighting with head hunger and that can play into it with your depression..Really talk with your dr. now Paxil....YES this can contribute to weight gain..agian talk to your dr...maybe they can change it for you. I truley wish you the best..do keep in touch it's a great board with awsome people..Everyone is here to help..If they don't have the advice ya need it's at least a hug.

Holly, I won't repeat what everyone else has said...it is all good advice! I just wanted to let you know that this is exactly why we are all here. It's not just about the good stuff it's about the stuff that we fail at too. This group is so wonderful...I love the fact that we can put down the stuff we've done badly with and no one will judge and everyone will have helpful tidbits to hand out...even if it's just to say hang in their we're all struggling with you, it helps!! This forum is a god send for me!!! Anyway, so that's what my note is...we're here and we'll help you anyway we can even if it's just a shoulder to cry on! Corinna Q

Holly, First 45 pounds is nothing to sneeze at! BUT I have to say - I agree with you and I can see why you are frustrated with losing "only 45 pounds!" I googled Paxil and weight gain - it seems common!!! Maybe discuss an alternate drug with your doc? You mention that you don't dump now ... it sounds like you are not eating "right" and eating things that you hope would cause you to dump - I know personally if I eat carbs I crave them more - I know for a fact when I eat lean protein ... I am full and satified - Add in fiber and that fullness lasts longer. Sounds like you need to regroup with your Nutritionist and doctors to make a plan and put it into action. This surgery is only A TOOL and I KNOW that if I don't follow the rules the scale GOES UP!!! You can do this!!!!!! We are here for you - Congrats on your 45 pounds and reaching out for help! keep us posted, Britt

Holly, I'm so sorry you are feeling frustrated about your weight loss and I second all that the others have said. First of all, in looking at your profile, I see that you suffer from PCOS. I'm sure that affects the rate of weight loss, doesn't it? Is there a board on OH that addresses PCOS? I have taken antidepressants in the past (more than 10 years ago) and I noticed it slowed or stopped MY weight loss. However, I also read that some people who take antidepressants LOSE weight! Who knows?! Sounds like you need to work very closely with a nutritionist who knows about the affects of PCOS and antidepressants on weight loss. Also, I don't know if you are an RNY patient or LapBand but, in general, the LapBand patients I've met personally seem to lose weight at a slower rate because of the process of tightening the band. Hang in there!
