What a day!
Today is the first day of school for my son. It's also his 11th birthday today. We had a party for him this weekend and he had 4 friends over for a sleep over, pool party and general house trashing. LOL! I was so ready to see them all leave! They stayed up ALL night! As soon as the last person left, my son fell face down on the carpet and fell asleep there for over an hour! Then he moved to a chair and slept there for 2 more hours. It was pretty funny.
Getting him off to school was a bit rocky. His bus schedule didn't have a time listed for his stop, so I sent him down 10 minutes earlier than last year. Four buses went by, but none stopped, so I had to drive him to the the high school where he catches his transfer to get to his school. We will try again tomorrow.
I also had an appt. with my PCP today. She is very concerned about my weight loss. I lost another 5 lbs. from 2 weeks ago when I was in last. She is putting me on a short course of Prenisone and a heavy-duty antidiarrheal to try to get this to stop. Then we will see what might be going on. She said it sounds like I have all the classic symptoms of Celiac disease and she wants me to try gluten-free eating for the next 10 days to see if I improve. If this is what it is, and I can avoid a revision, then yippee! If not, then we will keep looking. If I do experience some relief, I'm sure we will follow with the tests to positively confirm Celiac disease. She is also going to do her own research into the Habba Syndrome. I left some information for her. I am showing signs of malabsorption, short bowel syndrome, celiac disease, lactose intolerance, in addition to fatigue. She said she is surprised my fat soluble vitamins are still in the normal range, so that is good. But my zinc and HGB are low.
She said at this point, it doesn't matter how much I eat, I'm not absorbing anything. I mean, keep eating, but don't stress about it. So it's imperative that we get the diarrhea to stop and find a way to get me to absorb, and QUICK. So far, I have no damage, but that can change if we don't get a handle on this really soon. So I go back in 10 days for a follow up. She also said if we can't fix this, I will need a revision. But she is willing to help me exhaust my options to try to avoid that. I'll keep you posted.
Kim, I hope you and your PCP can find out what is going on. I know (with most people) prednisone will put on weight. I hope it does with you but that you don't lose it once you stop the medication. Maybe it will buy time to let the bowel calm down while you try gluten free. Hopefully, answers will be discovered soon so that your long term health isn't damaged. If your hemoglobin level is low, does the doctor have any idea why? Is there any blood in the diarrhea? Have they actually done smears of it?
CeCe
Hi CeCe, I will only be on a short 7 day course of the Prednisone, so I won't gain any weight from that. I have no idea why the HGB is low. Although that is a sign of this Celiac disease. Maybe could be that. I have surpressed my periods, so I am not losing additional blood that way. So far there has been no blood in the stool, however I thought I saw some old blood last night, but it could have been pimentos or something. They have not done a smear yet, but I have asked about that. I will discuss that again when I see her on the 14th.

I sure do hope your PCP gets to the bottom of this for you so you don't have to go through a revision. Not that you want to have anything wrong with you, but at least you would avoid another surgery. Keep us posted on how it is all going. I will continue to keep you in my prayers... Take care sweetie...

I am so sorry that you are still going through this. I'm glad that you have a good, caring PCP. I hope she is able to get you stable soon.
