I suffered from IBS back in 2002 for a year. It was awful and fit the true definition of IBS at the time. Fast forward to today. I've had diahrrea for over 3 months. No cramping and gurgling this time, though. I go sometimes up to 6 times a day, usually after a meal. I was watching Medical Mystery that I had taped last night, and there was a lady who had bad D to the point of losing control a few times. I haven't had that, but everything else sounded the same. She ended up getting diagnosed with Habba Syndrome. It is most often mistaken for IBS. It is where the gall bladder is dysfunctional and puts out bile salts into the digestive track which makes you have D. After they rule out other things like cancer, Crohn's disease, etc. there is a simple test they can do to see if your gall bladder is malfunctioning. And then you take this one pill before every meal and your D is gone. The med is a cholesterol med, but it's taken in such a low dose it doesn't affect your cholesterol score. Even people who have had their gall bladder removed can get this. Here is the link to the site to learn more: http://www.habbasyndrome.com/ Anyway, I think I'm going to have my doc look into this. I just thought I would always have D and I would just have to get used to it. I mean, everywhere I go I need to know where the bathroom is. And I have to time things around my bathroom habits. It's very annoying, but it can be debilitating for some. So I thought that having excessive D is just a side effect of having WLS. But maybe it's not. Imagine if I wasn't going to the bathroom so often. Maybe I could actually absorb some of this nutrition and gain weight!

Kim, This is very interesting. For years I had chronic D and even had my GB removed which did not help it. I still have bouts of D but not as often because of the reduced diet. I think I will ask my Doc about this when I go next time too. I looked at the link you provided but it doesn't really say what the treatment is for theis conditon. Did the TV show say anything about the treatment? Thanks for the info and I hope you can get some relief soon! I know first hand how bad it can be to have D 5-6 times per day at any time, anywhere. Hugs, Valorie

I guess there are several medications that work. The first one they discovered was a cholesterol lowering medication that is given in a low dose and doesn't affect your cholesterol. I saw the generic name for it, but I can't remember it. Cholesterine or something like that.
