been a while... new news!!
Hello All,
It's been a while since I have been on, but now I have some new news. I have taken 2 home pregnancy tests and both of them have come up positive!! What do I do now? I still have a lot more weight to lose, will it still come off???
Weight loss has been slow the last couple of months. I am still only down about 85 pounds. I want to lose 203, so I hope that I can still lose more weight.
Not much else going on. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Kristina
Hey Kristina! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Are you excited??? I hear that once weight starts coming off that women can get really fertile.
I don't know anyone who has had surgery and gotten pregnant while still losing. What does your surgeon/doc say? I'm sure since the WLS is a tool, that once the babies are born, if you work the tool, it will still work.
Stay positive and Congratulations!!!!
Congratulations Kristina... as a mother of 6 children I will say that you are very blessed!!!
Please be sure to follow up with your NUT, your surgeon and your OB/GYN to make sure you are getting the right nutrition and medical care that you need to support that new life. Be sure to visit the pregnancy forum as well, like Britt suggested for questions that I am sure they can answer better than us. I wish you much luck in your upcoming motherhood and during your pregnancy. I am sure you will do just fine as long and you follow doctors orders. Take of you and your precious little package....

Kristina,
First let me say CONGRATULATIONS! What exciting news. I am not an expert on pregnancy after WLS but I do know a couple of things that I can share with you. I have an almost 2 year old so I am speaking from recent experience though it was B4 WLS.
1. Pregnancy does not have to equal weight gain. This is especially true for those of us who are obese. I lost weight with both of my boys. As a matter of fact, after I had my last son I was actually down 40+ lbs. I lost 20 throughout the pregnancy then another 20+ right after the birth. You just have to watch what you eat just like you do now. Keep up the protein and low carb- only good carbs. This also helps with your chances of not having gestational diabetes. Make sure you take your vitamins, drink skim milk and count your carbs. Nothing new to you I am sure.
2. Pregnancy increases your metabolism. Yep, you burn calories at a higher rate because you are supporting your baby.
3. Breast feeding after surgery also increases your metabolism and helps lose more weight. You can actually use it as another effective weight loss tool! Just be sure to keep up your protein and calories. Your doctors can suggest a target calorie count for each stage.
I know you are probably overwhelmed right now but remember that you can do it and still be a loser! We are here for any support we can give.
Again, congratulations!
Valorie
Kristina,
Congratulations! I just want to second all those who said to check with your surgeon, nutritionist and your ob/gyn. Make sure your ob/gyn has a nice long talk with the WLS clinic so he/she has a good understanding of you "special" needs. Do what they say and I'm sure you will be able to lose the rest of the weight you want after the baby is born and not gain too much during the pregnancy! Great job on the weight loss so far too!
