Low blood sugars
I don't know if anyone else has had to deal with this....but here it goes anyways. I've never before had a problem with blood sugars however in the last two months I've started to have lightheaded spells, where everything seems to be in slow motion which have at times gotten so bad that I've passed out. I have seen my doctor and they did a glucose test after I'd eaten an hour and a half before. The doctor said my levels should have been between 110 and 120. However it was 57. When they told me this the only suggestion they had was to eat more...I tried explaining to him that I cannot eat more...I'm already eating 4-5 meals a day and I can't increase my meals because well...my stomach is TINY, lol. So they are sending me to internal medicine. But being that this is military....I'm probably looking at a minimum of a month wait before I get in : - ( . I just don't know what to do until then. When my sugar gets low it's not like I can just eat sugar to bring it up. Not without dumping that is....I feel so frustrated...Thanks for letting me vent, I'm just very confused and upset right now. If anyone has any suggestions they are more than welcome
I had my sugars drop on me for the first time the other day... I know that is what it was because I used to experience it all the time before surgery. I started to sweat, shake and get light headed.... I know you can't eat sugar to bring it up, but have you tired keeping some saltines handy and snacking on those between meals to keep things stable until you get in to the doctor.... I know what you mean about long waits.. I see doctors and University of Michigan Hospital and there are long waits for them as well (usually 1 - 2 months). Good Luck... I hope you get in soon and get this taken care of. Keep us posted on how things are going....

I am sorry to hear you are having problems, i have experienced this as well as low blood pressure. I was previously a diabetic. I talked with my PCP on Tuesday (he is an Internal Medicine Physician as well as previously having worked for the bariatric clinic in which I had my surgery) he advised me that this is fairly normal and will not last. His suggestion was to keep glucose tablets (can find them in any drug store/pharmacy area) with me as well as low sugar orange juice for emergencies. He stated that the body has gone from one extreme to another and will even/level itself out. Be very cautious in the mean time. I find that adding a little change to my diet such as the addition of a little fruit has helped this significantly. A few strawberries or part of a bannana can make a huge difference in your sugar maintenance level. Also make sure you are getting something every few hours, this also level's out blood sugar levels. My surgeon suggests 3 meals and 2-3 snacks. Keep us informed and take care of yourself.

I've just had that same problem also. Except my heart was pounding, I had profuse sudden sweating, and uncontrollable shaking also. I could hardly talk but was able to tell my 8 year old son to get me a NSA fruit popsicle and I starting feeling better within a half hour. The next day I went to the doctor to let him know what was going on and since I had previously been diagnosed with iron-deficiency anemia, he ordered some more blood work on me. I went today to get my bood drawn but he seemed to think it was a glucose problem as well. It scared me pretty bad and I didn't feel right yesterday (the day after it happened) so that's why I went to the doctor. We'll see what the bloodwork says.
I would suggest making sure you have some sort of sugar (fruit sugar) during the day. I'm trying to do that also. I didn't have any the day it happened so maybe that's what triggered the episode?
Good luck!
