Vertigo, Please help!
I've been having horrible episodes of vertigo ever since surgery, and it has gotten a lot worse lately. Anytime I get up from sitting or laying to a standing/walking position, I get this sensation of extreme dizziness and my vision narrows in like I might just pass out. I've been to my family physician and he ran a few tests and hasnt found anything wrong. I haven't spoken to my surgeon about it, I'm not sure if It's something I should bring to his attention or not. I wanted some advice for all of you, has anything EVER experienced something like this? Please tell me I am not alone! I am a nurse, so my first reaction was dehydration, but I'm not dehyrated, I drink PLENTY of water each day, if not TOO much, and my urine is fine. I've checked my blood pressure lying down it was 120/72 sitting 115/69 and standing 110/62. So it does drop slightly, but not THAT much, not enough to say I am having orthostatic blood pressure problems. I don't know, what do you guys think, any similar cases??
Melanie,
I have not experienced what you are going through but ....what about your blood sugar? Could it be possible that you are experiencing hypoglycemia? Just a thought, but does it happen at times when you haven't had any nutrition within the past 3-4 hours? You may want to check your glucose levels at different times during the day to see what is up.
I am sure others will have some different ideas for you. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.

have they checked your B12???
Mine was low and I have had lightheadedness - due to my B12 being low. I went for B12 injections for 4 weeks and supplement it daily at home. I will get another shot in a few weeks and then 4 weeks after that. Then I will have my labs drawn again for 9 months to see where its at.
hugs,
Britt
It may be an electrolyte imbalance. Try increasing your electrolytes with gatorade. Or there is a liquid form called Elete drops that are tasteless that can be added to any liquid. One easy thing to try to see would be to take and lick some salt when you are feeling dizzy. If this helps, it may be your electrolytes.
Hey...sorry to hear you're having troubles with this. I went through a period when I had this exact same problem. To the point where I would actually end up on the floor because I was so dizzy. I had all kinds of tests done and they never found anything more than a seriously minor heart murmer that they said wouldn't have caused it. What they did decide is that 1. my blood pressure was a little on the low side and 2. it was stress induced. Since that time (my parents were going through a divorce at that time) when I do get extremely stressed I start having this problem again so I'm pretty certain it was mostly due to the latter. Of course I have no idea if you have a lot of stress in your life but basically since I wasn't dealing with it emotionally my body dealt with it physically.
I do have it still occasionally but usually it's isolated occurances that have everything to do with not having enough fluids and as soon as I get some water in me I'm usually fine.
I know that this isn't a fix for it but it might give you a cause which is what worried me and my parents the most because we couldn't figure out what was causing it.

You may not have vertigo...I had a few dizziness and fainting episodes 2 wks. ago and my PCP immediately sent me to the ER. I had low blood pressure in her office. I had a complete CBC done and I was anemic and had an iron deficiency. My blood count was 7.4 (normal is 14). I was bleeding in the rectum...turns out I also had an ulcer which probably caused the blood loss. I was pretty sick and needed a blood transfusion...ended up staying 2 nights and it will take about 6 weeks to recover fully. I was wondering why I was tired even though I was in good health and had lots of energy! If your doctor didn't get lab work on you, I suggest you get it done right away!
