I drank a glass of wine...

I took some of our managers out to celebrate the end of our annual hell week (inspection). I was only going to drink half a glass of white wine but I looked down and realized my glass was empty! I didn't get that extra buzz that some people speak of. I didn't feel it much at all. I swear I don't have any of the common symptoms of wls. I wish I did just so I would be convinced that I actually had surgery. My husband has more wls symptoms than I do (and he's never had the surgery!) He can't eat fast, he gets the foamies, he feels like food gets stuck, etc. It's weird but his is due to reflux.

Wanda, I hear you completely about needing to be convinced that you have had surgery, I have had no real side effects and have often wondered whether anything was really done. Be careful about alchol, during a recent Medicare Certification of the Bariatric Center at one of the hospital's I work for (not where I had my surgery), I read a study that shows that bariatric patients are 5 x more likely to become alcoholics than those that have not had the surgery due to the asorbing factor. Probably not something you have to worry about but I wanted to tell you and any one else reading that this is a possibility. So be careful. HUGS Christy

Thanks for the reminder. I've never had a problem with alcohol but it sure runs in my family! I know the genetic make-up for alcoholism is there so you are right--I do need to be careful.

Oh my, it sounds like your husband has sympathy wls pain for you! Wine is very light and may not have been very strong. If you had a hard liquor drink, which I am not advising, you would feel it I promise. You are blessed to not have a lot of symptons, but also give yourself credit for not pushing your bounderies

Yes, I accuse him of stealing my surgery! But the truth is--he had these symptoms before I had my surgery. He has acid reflux in a bad way. The doc told him if he were to stop smoking his syptoms would go away. He's seriously thinking about trying Chantix. Lots of people found success with it. I know I should be counting my blessings about the lack of symptoms but I think I would feel better if I "felt like a wls patient". You know what I mean? Kind of a reminder.

Ok guys get out your rulers and spank my hands! I had SEVERAL drinks on Saturday night at a club. I think I had 4 screw drivers and 2 long island ice teas. I was very cautious on the first couple of drinks. Drank them slowly and was concerned that they would go to my head (or stomach) too quickly. After 4 screw drivers, I decided to try something stronger, thus the Long Island Teas, because I didn't even feel a slight buzz and my feet still didn't want to move on the dance floor. Hey, I know the facts about alcoholism and WLS and I am by no means a heavy drinker, I possibly drink 3 or 4 times per year if/when I get a girls-night-out. This just happened to be such an occasion. Wanda, I really empathize with you on the no WLS symptoms. I have none, zero, nada....I got sick possibly 3 times but none in the past 3 months. Those were only because I ate way too quickly and there was just no room for the food anywhere but up. Since I have learned not to eat so quickly I have not had any problems. I tolerate sugar up to 10 grams with not problems, and Lord only knows how much sugar was in the Long Island Tea! I shudder to think. But, alas...no problems. I was fine all evening, after the club closed at 1 am, I went home took a shower, did some laundry, emptied the dishwasher then finally went to bed about 4 am. And before anyone even thinks about it, I had a designated driver. I would never have any alcohol and drive home. Anyway, the moral of the story is.....every one of us is different. For some folks alcohol or foods will cause problems. Others, like me, seem not to be affected by alcohol or anything else. For those of us "lucky" enough not to have any symptoms from WLS, we just have to use self control with everything we put in our mouths....FOREVER! WLS did not change this fact for us. Have a great day. Val

You had quite the night, Val! I can't believe that you drank all that and then had the energy to stay up for hours cleaning the house and taking a shower! Now that's stamina!
