Don't get dehydrated!

It was something like 86 degrees here today but not very humid so it just didn't feel too hot. I did strength training at the gym early morning then downed a protein shake before grabbing my bike and riding to a local park and riding the trails. I rode pretty hard for 1 hour and 40 minutes. I noticed some dogs at the Bark Park so I rode home fast and furious to get mine. I was hungry but in a hurry so I grabbed 2 Ry Krisp crackers and 2 pieces of those Kraft Cracker size cheese and rushed my dogs to the Bark Park so they would have others to play with. I took a bottle of Crystal Light and was waiting a while after I ate to drink but I started talking to people and not drinking. All of a sudden, I started feeling dizzy, nauseous and shakey. I started to leave but one dog wasn't cooperating, I had to grab onto the gate and I was blacking out! It was awful. Thankfully, one woman stayed with me while I sat down and tried to recover. She helped me get my dogs leashed and walked me to the car and even followed me to my turn off. I think I was just dehydrated! I've never fainted and never want to get any closer than that! Needless to say, I've been drinking water ever since. So, lesson learned! I won't let that happen again! As the weather heats up, please pay closer attention to staying hydrated!

Good advice. I'm glad you made it home ok. I'm not keeping track of my water intake and I know I need to start. You sound soooo active! You make me seem lazy!

CeCe, what you described could happen to any of us. We all need to take heed and keep ourselves hydrated as the weather warms. You lose fluids quickly which can lead to big problems. I usually get close to a gallon of fluids per day, at least 72 oz of plain water. I start my day with 36 oz of water on my drive to work and another 24 on the drive home. Weekends are my downfall due to no commute time but I still shoot for my gallon. Usually end up with at least the needed 64.

How in the world do you get 36 oz on your drive??? I drive an hour, and am lucky to get in 10-12 oz on the drive. It hurts to drink any faster than that. I wish I could get in more, maybe I am just not trying hard enough. Keep up the great work! Sandy
