Complications!

Wow!!! so I just spent the past 10 days in the hospital! lucky me!!!!! I started out having crazy blood sugar problems (note I am not, nor have I ever been diabetic) My blood sugars were uncontrollably low! Down into the 40's and 50's and no matter how much I tried to eat (which we all know is not very much) I couldn't get them to come back up. So I had to go to the Emergency room, and they got them up by IV's. So they admitted me, to keep an eye on it. Then the next day I couldn't keep anything down, everything I ate I threw up, and the blood sugars were crazy still. After 7 days of being there, they finally figured out that it was my gall bladder, it was completely filled with stones, and had basically contracted because of this. So they went in and got it out of there. I am finally home, sore from the surgery, but doing good now. I am now considered a brittle hypoglycemic, and I have to keep a close eye on my blood sugars, I have to check them once a day in the mornings and then keep a glucose monitor by my side in case I start feeling low. I know that both of these things are side effects of the surgery, but man! It took me by surprise! I had been doing so well!! Everyone that I've talked to told me their gall bladders (if they had them still) got taken out during the surgery! I don't have any clue why my surgeon didn't take mine out, but dammit! I wish he would have! It would have made things a little easier! I am moving from my one bedroom apartment in with a roomate, and I have to have everything out of this current apartment by sunday! That gives me a total of 2 days to get everything packed and moved, talk about a stressor!!!! The only good thing about my hospital stay was that I am nurse, and I was admitted to the floor that I work on, so I was with friends the entire time and they took wonderful care of me. I can definently be thankful for that!!!! I am having crazy ass hairloss also, any good ideas on how to help that?? It has gotten so thin, I don't know if I should cut it short or not, I have fairly long hair right now, and I don't know if cuttting it would hel*****t. I've always wanted short hair, but have been scared to cut it short, because my face was always so fat I knew the shorter the hair the fatter my face would look, but now that my face is skinnier, I'm thinking that maybe I could pull off a short hair cut!! I dont' know, I guess I am rambling on now, sorry this post is so long! let me know what you guys think though!!!! Surgery Date - 11/10/2006 Starting weight -305 Current weight - 197 Goal weight -150

You've really been through a lot! Will you always have blood sugar problems or will that correct itself? I've not heard that it is standard practice to automatically take out the gallbladder during gastric bypass. Many people do have problems with the gall bladder after but most don't. I'm sorry you have to move in the midst of all of this! I hope you have a good support system that can help you out. I wish you well.

Sorry to hear about all your problems. I have been taking Biotin since my surgery but I still started loosing my hair at the 4 month mark. But I did recently add Omega 3 and that seems to have slowed it down quite a bit. Deb

Hello Melanie, sorry to hear that you had to go thru surgery again so soon after WLS. I had my gall bladder removed during my WLS. I was lucky. Be careful moving this weekend. Hopefully you can find some friends to help. My wife uses boitin for hair loss. Seems to work. There's no hope for my cue ball except maybe a little polish. Well, I'm sure things will get better now. Take care of yourself. Michael
