what about egg beaters with cheese, egg salad, chicken salad, shrimp, chicken, fish? You can't get all your protein in thru regular foods?
Try ISOPURE ready to drink - sold at GNC each bottle has 40 grams of protein and is 20 ounces. They are kind of like a gatorade sort of drink
I couldn't stand the shakes myself
hope this helps.

Shawna I agree with Brit.. try to Isopure. They were the only ones I could drink at first as all the other shakes made me sick. And do the already mixed ones in the bottles. the powder taste awful. The isopure dosen't taste great but it is doable. I personally liked the orange and yellow one the best. Lots of people that I talk to like the grape one the most, but i didn't really care fort that ne. Everyone is different so if you don't one, try another.
How far out are you from surgery, and why are you having problems getting the protein in? Are you throwing up or just no appetite?
I LOVE what my DR said on my last visit....
"Don't stress about how many grams of protein you get a day, Just eat 3 meals a day each meal being 4 oz of meat, fish, chicken, beans, or eggs" As long as you take your vitamins you will be fine, he said. So when I left his office last Monday, I was 197 & today I am 190..so it's working & I'm loosing faster now than when I was taking & stressing about the protein shakes.
Have you ever tried fresh energy bakery? (www.freshenergybakery.com). I have been getting their protein bars and they are fabulous! They have 39-43 grams of each! They taste great. I have a few I am taking with me on the trip just in case I need a protein pick me up.
I also agree to try getting it from your foods. It will jumpstart that stall....
One more idea...I don't know if you are a coffee drinker but I get a short latte have them put it in a tall cup so I can stir stuff in easily then mix in my protien powder. The coffee masks the flavor. Also for me the smell of the mixed protien is what grosses me out, even more than the taste so the coffee masks the smell a little plus you put the lid on and you really can't smell it at all. For me it works like a charm and I am able to get my protien in. And you really don't get that much caffeine from a shot of espresso. Contrary to popular opinion a shot of espresso has only approx 35 mg of caffeine vs 200 mg in a typical cup of drip coffee.
Of course this all only helps if you like coffee I personally really dislike Isopure it just doesn't taste good to me, but everyone is different and lots of people recommend it. Another thing to try are protien bars, Atkins and Southbeach both have bars that have at least 10 g of protien each and few carbs and they aren't very big so they don't fill you up half way through.
Good luck!

I was taken off of protein drinks at my 6 week visit and was mortified. I never liked them and made my own with with a recipe I received pre-surgery from my surgeon.
My doctor told me he wanted me to use regular food and it is so much easier and it took me right out of the diet mentality I could have easily fallen into.
How much longer do you have to do the protein drinks? Do you eat food? Protein is *everywhere*.
Good luck! I look forward to hearing more from you.
I'm with you. I HATE drinking protein shakes, a) the smell, b) the taste, c) the fact they take so long to get down.
I tried the bars but most of them have a lot of sugar and/or sugar alchols in them so it's hard to find ones that have 12 grams or less of sugar/alcohols combined. Plus after a while they got to be too sweet for me, and impossible for me to stomache them either. I don't throw up but I just can't make myself eat something that tastes gross to me.
I was recommended a good alternative though. They have "protin shots" which are 3.3 ouce drinks that come in little test tubes. They are made by "IDS New Whey" and they have a variety that has 42 grams of protein per 'shot' (not to be confused with the other line they have which are 2.9 oz. but only have I think 26 grams per 'shot'.
I won't lie, they taste pretty gross, but since it's done in three sips it's defintiely bearable. The liquid tastes like a thick fruit punch flavored syrup.
Since my doctor advises us to spread out our protein throughout the day for better absorption I take only a gulp at a time. Otherwise the 42 grams would be wasted by malabsorption. Literally in 3 sips it's over. I try to take a sip between breakfast and lunch, one shortly after lunch, and one just before I head home from work.
Each 'shot" has 42 grams protein, 176 calories, 0 sugars/alcohols, 0 fat, 2g carbs, 64 mg sodium, and 31 mg potassium. What's great is they are resealable and don't require any refrigeration so they're great to throw in your purse.
I'm sure you can find them all over the internet but the cheapest place I saw was www.buildingbrawn.com where a set of 12 was $26.95 with $5.95 shipping.
Good luck. Hope this helps!!!
