I had surgery on 11/08/06 and have been on Flintstone vitamins since surgery per my Doctor. I want to take a better vitamin. What kind do you take?

I take either Centrum or the generic version of Centrum. I would think though that any multivitamin for adults would be fine for you. Are you also taking other vitamins such as B complete, B12, Calcium Citrate, Iron? Or just the multi?

I take B12 sublingual and I'm not good at taking my calcium. But I know I need to start taking it. Pattie

Patti, every doctor is different. I think you have to go by what your blood test show. Your doctor should order those that show all of your levels and you can adjust your vitamins accordingly. My doctor recommends 38 g of Iron. My multi has 18 g so I have to take an additional Iron pill for the other 18. She also recommends 1000-1200 g of calcium citrate. You do want to make sure it is the citrate as our new pouches don't absorb the carbonate as well. I take 1/2 of mine in pill form and the other 1/2 in liquid. Also not at the same time because your body can't absorb it all at once. So you want to split it up. You also don't want to take your iron and calcium at the same time as they counter eachother and you won't get the absorption. I was taking the b complete sublinqual but then found out it didn't have B1, so I have switched to a B complete tablet that has niacin and b1 and still take the b12 sublingual. Please please please start taking your calcium!! Sooo many people suffer from bone density issues after having this surgery because they don't take their calcium. It is SOOOO important. You've went through all the misery and pain of having this surgery to get healthy. You don't want to do through all that just to end up crippled anyways. I mix the liquid strawberry flavored calcium in with my chocolate protein shake, and then take the calcium citrate petites later at night. You can also just take a spoon ful of hte liquid. I don't really are to take it that way. But it really is more of a mental thing as it really just taste like unsugared strawberries. They also sell those lozenges which I think are bariatric advantage, but I think those are nasty and take wayyy to long to dissolve. Plus they are really expensive. There is also the vegan kind that has no real flavor. I didn't like that one either it was a little too chalky for me. But my point is there are Lots and lots of options. Your calcium is wayyyy to important not to take.

also. Your doctor should order you a bone density at one point to make sure you are getting in enough calcium. I think mine is at 12 months? Or maybe 6 months. I really don't remember.

I take the Bariatric Advantage. I want to be sure that what I take has the best absorption possible.

Yes. I order from Susan Marias site. They sell the combo pack of the multi, calcium, iron, and B-12. You can also get them from bariatricadvantage.com and it might be available on the OH site as well. My surgeon's office sells the Bariatric Advantage too.

I take 4 optisource vitamins from Walgreens online, and they have everything. They're chewable and taste very good. I don't need to take extra Calcium, B12 or iron. Everything's in there. Linda O.
