How Do We Process Fat?

I heard that we don't metabolize fat. Does anyone know what that means or if it's even true? I'm wondering if we can have higher fat content because fat kind of just passes through.
I'm not sure the exact process. Also, with my surgery (MGB) we need to stay on low fat because if you increase fat it is hard on the system, creates bloating and gas. We also get what is called "agent orange". It's the orange blobs of oil that get left in the toilet. So I know some of it passes through. It's gross. I really try to keep my fat within reason. I do eat alot of cheese though.
I had RNY a week after you. I saw my surgeon and Nut today. They both say to watch the fat. While you may not metabolize it totally in the beginning, as you heal you will metabolize more of it, especially a year or two out. So you want to set the tone for how you will eat for the rest of your life while in this easy to loose period so we don't have the same bad habits that got us here in the first place.
I do know they have said that things high in fat can cause "dumping syndrome" so you want to keep that in mind.
We are also able to eat such a small amount at this time, we need to keep it as healthy as possible, lean proteins, fruit and vegs according to my guy.
I know I had a couple of bites of birthday cake a couple of days ago (mooched off my husband's plate) and the frosting made me sick to my stomach and I did
So I won't be trying that again soon!
Keep up your good work, and just think healthy thoughts! How exciting it will be for us this summer to be able to dress in something besides jeans and baggy tshirts!
Maybe even, heaven forbid, a bathing suit!!!

Sandy, Did you eat protein before the birthday cake? I am just curious as I was told from my doctor if we coat our stomaches with protein first we should be able to eat a few bites of desert. Just not sure if that is true or not. I have been able to eat 2 of those new mini fudge stripe cookies, or one of the mini cup cakes after a meal without getting too sick. They are tiny, like the size of a quarter. But I'm going to a birthday party tomorrow and am not sure if I should dare to have a bite of cake, even if I coat my pouch with protein first.
