OK Girls I come in here and read the november board often but first post for me over here..anyways...you all look like you have done wonderful.Me well I seem to be about 10 pds to slow..lol..47 pds gone...I went for my 3 month check up and I was told more protein (grr I can't get shakes down so I use bars) and more water..I knew I wasn't getting enough in.SOmetimes I wonder if I am even eating the right foods or not.I don't even recall being told the max amount of carbs,calories,fat..heck even protein for that matter for the day we should be getting in.SO my queastion to you girls is..Can we post a typical day of eating so I can just see if maybe I am doing this right.I would ask a nutritionlist but I didn't like the one my insurance wants me to go to..(can you see why I know nothing from her). ANyways it would be a great help..Thanks..Naomi

Hi Naomi, Welcome, first time poster!! Glad to have you aboard! I've read alot of the posts on here and my surgeon doesn't have a nutritionist (just his nurse) so alot of the info I received was from this board. I hit a plateau at about 250 lbs. for about 2 weeks. I read that upping my protein and my water would kick the plateau. I started concentrating on at least 45 grams of protein (45-80 grams) and trying to drink 64 oz of water a day. On Jan 26th, I found out I had a stricture of 4 mm (now 15 mm, thanks to a scope). Ever since then, I've had no problem with protein or water. I make sure everything I put into my mouth has some significant amount of protein. If it doesn't have protein in it, I don't eat it. I am now up to 70 grams of protein daily. Check your labels - you will be surprised at what has protein and what doesn't. There's more out there besides protein bars and shakes! As soon as my 30 mins before/after meals, I push the water. Since the 26th of Jan, I have lost 12 more lbs (5 lbs in 5 days). The protein and water work!! Hope this helps you! Deidrah

Hi Naomi, Welcome to the board - ! I've had so much problems in the last three months with food, and a blockage, and now a cold/asthma/sore throat, etc., its difficult for me to find a good mix of the right foods. Usually for breakfast I'll have 3 oz of egg beaters, scrambled with 1oz of cheese or ham. Or maybe cottage cheese w/small amount of diced canned fruit. Lunch - four ounces of some type of protein - I'm finding fish tends to be easier to chew and swallow - trout, tilapia, soft fish -- sometimes tuna. Or maybe chili with beans. I also love minestrone soup with beans Dinner - I've been making this concoction - 3 oz thin sliced roast beef, 1/2 ounce shredded cheese, 1/2 ounce of chopped or whole green ortega chili and microwaved until hot. Hits the spot. Our doctors prefer to have us get our protein from foods more times than with protein shakes. I do occaisionally supplement my meals with a protein powder for more flavor if I have oatmeal or malt-o-meal for breakfast. I drink water all the time. Sometimes I substitute Snapple diet tea or Minute Maid Light Passionfruit drink (s/f). I also love my hot herbal teas in the morning before breakfast. This was given to me from my surgeon's office to help me stay on track. How To Eat, After Surgery - The Nine Rules Post-Operative Diet 1. THREE MEALS PER DAY - Not FIVE, not TWO...THREE! 2. DO NOT EXCEED FOUR OUNCES PER MEAL - Two to two and one half should be enough; if in doubt, weigh your meals before serving. 3. SOLID FOODS "Chew your foods"- NOT SOFT OR LIQUID FOODS. 4. NO CARBONATED BEVERAGES - Not even diet sodas! Don't pop your staples or stretch your pouch! 5. AT LEAST 30 MINUTES PER MEAL - Don't INHALE your food 6. DON'T EAT WHILE DOING ANYTHING ELSE - No distractions. Be aware of what is passing through your lips at all times 7. LIQUIDS FIRST...PAUSE...THEN SOLID FOODS - Don't mix; as space is limited, since liquids empty more rapidly than solids, drink first, then eat. Allow 30-45 minutes after solids to take more liquids. 8. YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR WEIGHT CHOOSE FOODS WISELY; SPACE IS LIMITED. 9. RENEW YOUR COMMITTMENT EVERY DAY! "Commitment, Change, and Choices" ----------- Every surgeon, nutritionist, doctor, and weight loss group has differing rules, regulations, suggestions, and advice on what their patients should be doing. Did you receive any instructions after your surgery on types of food to eat? Our one suggestion is that food that was once alive has protein in it. (Simplistic - but effective).
