I had surgery on November 20th and I was 298 and I am down to 250, but I feel like I am at a pleateau. Does anyone else feel this way?? How much should I be losing right now? Please help me out with this. Thanks, Holly

I hit plateaus every now and then, but I know as long as I stick to my protein and water it will start coming off again. Plus, the further out we get from our surgeries the more we are going to have to work at making that scale go down... It is not just going to happen like it has been. We will have to watch carbs and make sure to exercise... It sounds to me like your weight loss is right on track. You have lost 48 pounds, when have you ever lost that much is such a short time. You should be proud of what you have done and not beat yourself up over a plateau... I know sometimes that is easier said than done, but it will start coming off again.... Keep up the good work!!! Hi Holly, I had my surgery Nov 29th and have lost 41# since surgery. I lost 44# before, but I just talked to my dietician this morning, because I have ONLY LOST 8# since the 9th of this month....and I was sooo worried. Jennifer told me that I am right on track, and said the further we get out-the harder it will be....I have had 2 plautau's, one for 9 days and then just a week and a half ago for a week.. She said it sounded like I had a stomach virus because I threw up every thing I ate or tried to drink. I didnt feel like I had a virus or a fever or anything, so who knows???? I just know I feel better now. I have been trying to walk and do daily work outs from the house since the ice storm hit, havent been able to go to the gym. Your doing great Holly, and Congrats on the weight loss. Dont be too hard on yourself or worried about not losing enough-Jennifer also told me that sometimes when we arent getting in enough protein/liquids etc that our bodies try to "protect" itself by not letting anything go-and thats why the scale doesnt move sometimes-although in my head-I would still be the first one to go if I was ever stranded on a desert island with a bunch of hungry animals-LOL...I dont want my body to think its a tiny morsel..... Good luck to you and take care. Jan

I get discouraged too. I lose a pound, gain a half-pound, lose a half-pound, then gain a pound! It drives me crazy but I'm sure in the end most all of us will be successful. Hang in there!

Hi Holly, My surgery was 11-21 and I've lost a total of 62# so far. I feel like I'm at a plateau as well, so I have increased my activity a bit (without overdoing it - so my feet don't go numb!). My next weigh-in with the doctor is on Feb 15, so I'll be able to weigh again. I have heard it said - we are to "weigh our food, not ourselves", so that's what I'm trying to do. I do have little "ah-ha" moments, when I'm able to walk without being in a wheelchair; I don't get winded when walking; I am able to fit in chairs (with arms) a bit better now; and I actually now have a neck! I didn't have the opportunity to measure prior to my surgery, mainly due to not having a tape measure, but I can tell in some of my clothing and my ability to wear socks, that inches may be dropping more than weight. I'm positive if I keep on track with my food plan, drink water, take my supplements, and keep active and keep having a positive attitude, the weight will continue to drop, and I'll be thinner in no time! Congratulations on all you have lost so far! Tracey B in LV 404/342/150 Lap RNY 11-21-06 http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/traceyb_lv/

I had my surgery the same day as you, and have plateau's a couple of times. Right now I feel I am stuck, only lost one pound last week, and nothing so far this week... But I am hoping if I stick with it, and start more excersize, it will start up again. I have lost 50 so far... Keep up the good work! Sandy

Hi Holly, I'm glad you brought this up -- I feel like this thread was written by me!!! I had surgery on Nov 14th and was losing close to a pound a day. But for the last two weeks, I have hit a major plateau. I have lost almost 63 pounds but I keep losing and gaining the same 2 pounds over and over! I CANNOT get past 249! I started out before surgery at 312. I am really concentrating on getting in my protein and water but a stricture prevented me from doing that. I have since had the balloon procedure done and now I can drink alot more. I exercise like crazy (I have so much energy now) for 50 mins every other day. I use the weight machines on the days in between. But still the scale is stuck!!! I try to keep a positive mental attitude but it is hard! Losing close to a pound a day and then not losing is very disheartening. I know exactly what you are going thru. Just remember there are others like you out there and we are there for you! Deidrah

Keep in mind that you are building muscle with all that exercise! Muscle weighs more than fat, so you probably are losing fat. I also work on the same 2 pounds for a week or two, then drop 3 or 4. It's a frustrating way to lose weight, but I'm really not suffering. As long as it comes off in the long run, I guess that's what is important. My surgery was 11/15, and I have lost 53 (make that 50.5; oh wait, it just changed, make that 52.3; oh phooey, make that 51.8) pounds. I'm feeling so much better, I guess that's what is important. I have been getting a little discouraged as the weight loss was just going 2-3 lbs a week for the last couple of weeks. Then this past week I dropped almost 10 lbs. I think the room had something to do with it but you never know. I doubled-up my Isopure protein drink for a few days also and I believe this helped. Hang in there, it will move.

Hi Holly, My surgery was 11/30/06 and I hit my 50 lb lose at 2 mos post op. I also hit those stalling periods and was told to up my protein when this happens, so I started taking a protein supplement (3 oz. @ 42 grams of protein) which I got at BuildingBreawn.com. And I haven't had a stall period since doing just that. Hope this works for you. Debbie
