And my nut gave they ok for WOW tortilla chips..I have lost over 60 #'s and almost 60 overall inches in 2 MONTHS!!!! I BELIEVE IM DOING GOOD!!!!! Why am i even explaining this?? Sorry i mentioned it....
Yes I have cheated. I havent had any sugar at all or any carbonation either. But I did go to pizza hut tonight and had a half of a slice of pizza. I try not to let my little cheats bother me too much. I try to keep up with my carbs and calories and not go over board. Congrats on the weight loss. I am about in that same area as you are. Before our surgery, we ate tons and tons of food all at once. I dont see how a bite or two of tortilla chips and cheese is going to hurt you. Keep up the good work!
I am so afraid of so many foods right now that I have not even been tempted to cheat.... LOL... I hope that doesn't change after my scope...
Most foods I eat, they don't stay down anyway... hardly anything does these days except my protein supplements... Oh well... I guess my answer would be NO... I have not cheated... I am too afraid of falling back into old habits....

Yes, I've cheated. But on no means on the scale of eating before surgery. I think that it is great that we have this tool to help us on our journey to a new and improved life. And if someone, has the ability and the desire to stay strictly on their diet. More power to them. However, I don't feel that we should be berated for having a small bite of something here and there. I decided during my process of getting ready for this surgery, that I wasn't going to resign myself to a life of not trying a taste or two of the wonderful things that the good Lord has provided for us on this earth. The problem with ourselves before was the unending cycle of overeating without moderation. Now we have to have moderation. In my opinion, I would rather take that one bite of something "sinful" than to obess about it for hours on end and be miserable. I hope that nobody makes this life altering decision so lightly that they would continue to binge as before surgery. I don't even think that it is possilbe, at least this early on. This forum is a place of support, not ridicule.

For me, cheating would be a big mistake. A little here and there would lead to a lot of bad choices later. I'm still so afraid that I won't be successful that I wouldn't want to risk it. I wouldn't consider having carbonated beverages because of the way that it can stretch out the pouch. My weight loss seems slow any way so I need to stay on the straight and narrow.
Every person approaches their post-op life different -- so don't sweat the personal opinions of others. If you feel comfortable with your nutritionist's "okay", then be fine with that.
For me, I know that if I was to start, it might be the trigger to bad habits -- and that is my main reason for not trying. I didn't have this surgery to slowly go back to old ways. I'm not saying it will happen to you, but when you put the statement out there you're asking for personal opinions -- and I can only speak on my feeling, about me, for whatever it's worth. LOL
I quit diet soda 3 months before the surgery, just to see if I could do it. Now, I don't miss it one bit (thankfully!). Pre-surgery, after I had stopped drinking diet soda, I tried one after 6 weeks -- it tasted terrible! So now, post-op, I really don't miss it.
Just be mindful of what your triggers are. The surgery is a tool, individual to everyone. I don't think anyone was trying to slam you, rather the strength of their commentary might is more out of concern.
I think we all just want to be as supportive as we can be of one another.
*hugs*

Stefanie,
I don't think you're doing anything wrong! Here's another thought - is it really "cheating" to eat a couple of chips or take a sip of diet soda every now and then? I'm of the opinion that we dont' have to give up ALL foods - moderation and wise choices more often than not are my philosophy.
This isn't a "diet" we're doing... we have a tool to allow/force us to eat healthy. It's working splendidly for me (and it sounds like for you too) and I really don't think eating healthy means NEVER taking a bite of "sinful" foods (now and then).
Others may disagree, but there is a HUGE difference between what I could eat pre and post op. I am physically incapable of returning to my old eating habits, so I am not even worried about it.
This is a life-long eating change (as opposed to a "diet" which is, by it's very nature, short-term)... so making it something we can live with is extremely important.
Just my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth. Keep up the good work!!
