Having Problems with My Skin!
I posted this in the Gastric-Bypass forum too -- But with my November pals, I'm wondering if any of you are experiencing similar problems:
Since my surgery 11-21-06; and being on two new medications - Protonix and Urso Forte, I've noticed a big problem with my skin on my face. First off, my forehead is extremely dry, skin peeling, redness. My lips are extremely dry, cracked, and peeling. Now in the last few days, I've been getting little red spots under my eyes, around my cheeks and nose, and traveling up to my forehead again.
Nothing else has changed -- same shampoo, same moisturizer (although, I've been going through it like gang busters .. because of the dry skin). I've increased my water intake, drinking water and herbal teas, have been taking my vitamins.
I have always had pure, white skin, baby soft, and no problems with pimples or acne. I'm at a complete loss to what may be causing this. I am 43 years old and female.
I've heard of hair loss (and thankfully, haven't experienced this), but not to the extent of skin problems.
Anyone have any ideas, or should I call the my surgeon's or PCP's office?
THANKS in ADVANCE --

I too am having issues with skin. However, I do not always get enough fluid in and I have thought that this may be the cause. My face is dry and arms and back are very dry with reddish splots. I have had dry skin in the past just never this bad. Probably should call your surgeon, it can't hurt. Please let me know what you find out. I would be interested in knowing if it was something more than fluid intake.

Well I contacted my surgeon's office this morning, and they have told me to stay of the Urso Forte for a week. One of the side effects is dry, itchy skin. Hummm, and I thought it was just the cold weather. The Urso Forte (aka Actigal) is used when someone still has their gall bladder. So we shall see ... hopefully this will clear it up too. I will also increase my fluid intake!
The flakiness and red splotches on my face had me looking for cover-up makeup ! I have never worn any make-up except maybe lip gloss, but now .. this condition really makes me look older than I am.
I want my real skin back

I've heard of people having skin problems. Fair skinned people that had soft, beautiful skin getting acne. I'm not sure what causes it though. My skin has been itchy and dry, but it's been cold here. A little moisturizer fixes me right up.
I hope you find out how to fix it. I'm on Actigall too, but never really noticed it changing my skin when I started taking it.
