More left side pain---2 months out.
Hi All,
Hope everyone is doing fine. I'm two months out today. For the past 4 days, I've been having lots of left sided pain. It doesn't appear to be the same type of left sided pain that I had early post op. This pain is to the left of where my pouch would be and then lower on the left side. Sometimes, I get quick sharp pains, but mostly it's just an ache. The area is also tender to the touch. I called my surgeon's office yesterday and they feel I need to be checked out. Only problem, we are in the middle of an ice storm here in Oklahoma. The surgeon's office did not recommend I make the 100+ mile trip to Tulsa. The surgoen's office agreed that I can watch it and if it gets worse to try to make it to the ER in Oklahoma City, but that's still 45 miles away. The roads are pretty slick and hazardous. My husband is really getting worried. I told him we'd see what the roads are like tomorrow and try to make it to OKC.
My question, is anyone else experiencing this type of symptom? I'm getting myself a little worked up hoping it's not some horrible complication. First thing that comes to mind is an ulcer, but I don't know what those symptoms would be.
thanks
Loretta
Sophia,
Thanks for your reply. I did make it to the ER in Tulsa yesterday. They ran several tests on me including labs, Xrays, and a CT scan. The labs showed I was low on potassium and sugar, for which they gave me some fluid and sugar. The CT scan was clear. The Xrays showed per the doctor that I had several "distended loops in my intestines", which the doctor said was basically gas.
I guess I don't understand how gas can cause tenderness that would last 5 days. I'll be following up with my surgeon on Friday, so I will discuss it with him.

I wish I could help you, but I have no clue.... Sorry you are feeling so bad... I would watch the roads, be aware if it gets worse and as soon as the roads are better, go in and get checked out... I know about the ice... we have it here in Michigan too, and we may get a huge snow storm tonight... Haven't see the news yet, so I am not sure on that....
I hope you are feeling better soon and it is nothing too seriouse... Keep us posted on how you are doing...

Shawn,
Thanks for your reply. The roads cleared up a bit yesterday and I made it to Tulsa to the ER. They ran several tests and basically said the problem was gas. Seems strange to me tho that I'd feel this tenderness for 5 days and it just be gas.
I followup with my surgeon on Fri and will discuss it more with him.
