Maybe I missed this part during my visits to the drs office. But I'm curious as to why people focus alot of the amt of protein intake. Is it for energy? Or is it a key ingredient needed in order for this surgery to work?

Protein is needed for so many reasons: 1) healing - EXTREMELY important 2) So that you don't loose your hair 3) so that your muscle don't get used up for energy

Sophia is right. Protein is needed to maintain muscle. With the few calories that we eat our bodies could start burning lean muscle mass for fuel instead of our fat reserves.
