Hey what did you guys do for meals for your family when you first got home from surgery.? Did you have meals frozen, tv dinners, help, or take out? How did your families manage with meals the first week or so? Thank you Cissy PS......AND how did you get your protien in? In case you didn't answer my other post. Did anyone have Isopure or Profect? If Isopure what flavor was good?

Cissy, I let my hubby handle the meals for the family, and on the nights he wasn't home yet, I just made them whatever and had mine separate.... Sometimes it is hard, especially if they are having pizza for dinner that night, but you'll get through it... I make myself pizza now... my special kind... I use a tortilla shell, cook it up with a little olive oil so it is crunchy... put on some pizza sauce, some ff cheese, some mushrooms, onions and turkey pepperoni and pop it in the oven for 10 minutes... I can only eat a little bit of it, but it sure was good the other night and it stayed down... (Remember I am almost 2 months out now too).... Now that is something I could make for the whole family with whatever toppings that they wanted, but still use the ff cheese and the turkey pepperoni... They can eat healthy too, it won't hurt them... LOL.... I love my new recipe.... I feel like I am cheating..... Best of luck to you. You will find what works best for you and your family. Shawn M.

It is just my husband and I in my house. And actually, I stayed at my in-laws the first 2 weeks after surgery to have someone home with me. I ate what I was allowed and they ate whatever my mother-in-law would fix. My husband was on his own for the first 2 weeks. I don't do most of the cooking anyway, so it wasn't much of a change for him. I have tried a few of the profects. I don't like one of the ones I have tried, but so far they have been tolerable. I got the 2 sample packs for Christmas, so I am slowly working on them.

Personally...I told them they were on their own, completely. My hubby and roommate made a variety of things from turkey to hamburger helper...all kinds of stuff. Mostly stuff that was just put in the oven and cook or throw it in the microwave but we didn't do hardly any takeout because I couldn't have anything from anywhere so we just didn't do it. I think that having a husband who can cook for the family is VERY important for the first couple of weeks. I personally haven't tried Isopure or Profect but I have some profect samples coming so I will let you know. I ate refried beans a lot as well as egg and tuna salad which is the only way I got protein in for the first few weeks. Good luck hun! Raven

Cissy, I can tell that you are a very sweet person who takes care of everybody. But now is your time, girl! Be waited on and pampered for a couple of weeks! But if you want to stock up so you can be pampered without guilt you can cook ahead some meals that will freeze well...chili, casseroles, lasagna. There are so many family sized frozen entrees that are fabulous...and the mashed potatoes that come in those containers almost taste as good as homemade. My husband likes the Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches. Lunch can be any type of easy sandwiches that they can take care of without you. Seriously, be a little selfish and just concentrate on healing. They won't starve. My favorite protein post op was Prostat. It had a good protein count for 2 ounces and you can put it down the tube (my dr. sends his patients home with a G-tube for 6 weeks--does yours?) The first few days it will be hard to consume enough orally. I love all of the Isopures. The Nectar brand shakes are great. I also ordered the Unjury tasteless protein to add to soup broth. I bought a high protein pudding from Bariatriceating.com. It was a little pricey but it had 20 grams of protein. Protein consumption gets easier a few weeks after surgery.

P.S. When I recommend Isopure I am talking about the ready to drink version. The Isopure powder that you have to mix is awful.

Cissy, My Mom stayed with me to help out. The first 3 days I was home they had, easy meals that I pre-planned - They also ordered pizza one night. I couldn't stand the smell of food the first few days ...so I stood far away from the kitchen. However, after that I was cooking for everyone. I made a nice big pot of sauce and made baked ziti and a nice salad for everyone. I felt it was good moving around for me and it was my way of saying "relax" and "thanks you" to my Mom and my husband for doing all of the extra work taking care of the girls, the laundry and the housework. I had a hard time getting all my protein in - but I did it! My problem was I hated all of the protein stuff I had. yucky and made me feel sooooooooo full Finally I found out about Isopure (ready to drink) 20 ounce bottle - 40 grams of protien. I poured 1/2 of the bottle and mixed it with 1/2 crystal light and enjoyed it! I like grape frost or blue raspberry your day is almost here! I am praying for you! Britt

My mother- and Father-in-law came and stayed to help out with the kids while I was in the hospital and the first night home. Then we or should I say my Spouse took over after that.
