Not Sure I'm doing this post-op thing correctly!
Hello Everyone,
I am 6 wks post surgery (11-30-06) and in reading alot of the posts here I notice alot of people talking about counting calories and protein amts. And I haven't been doing any of that, should I be? I mean I've been eating when I am hungry, at least I'm trying to eat when I am hungry, but alot of things are still trial and error. I know I am lacking in my water intake and I'm working on that. But it seems like in the last ten days I've just gone up and down a lb or two. And even though I'm down almost 40 lbs. (279.5 @ surgery - 242/243 now) noone has even noticed????

My nutritionist told me NOT to count anything but protein and water. Try to get in 60-80 grams of protein and 64 oz. of water. But I am very detailed and precise and I want to know exactly what I am consuming. It helps me a lot. For instance if I get to the end of the day and need to make a decision about what to eat, I can look back and see that maybe I had enough carbs. This helps me to decide to have my tuna salad without the crackers. Or if my weight is stalled, then I can look back and see if the stall is due to what I'm eating or if it is just a natural lull. As far as your weight loss goes, I think you are doing great! But you are right, people don't really notice our initial weight loss. After we reach a certain size, then each few pounds that we lose is more noticable. If you are like me I'm still kind of hidden under baggy clothes. Some day, we will break out of our cocoon and blow them away!
