Problems eating and drinking?
Just wondering, do any of the RNYs feel good after they eat? I find that pretty much EVERY time I eat I feel like I have been kicked in the stomach, sometimes I even have to lay down afterwards. Same with drinking, water is a no go.. I drink it because I have to but never enough. I can do decaf coffee (my doc said it was okay after 30 days) and milk sometimes does good. Just wanting a general consensus on how your tummies are treating you and if this is common.
Thanks for the input

I almost wish I had your problem. I'm just the opposite--nothing bothers me. Sometimes I have to wonder if anything was really done to me during surgery because nothing seems to phase me. I'm not hungry and I am able to limit my intake but I measure my food. I think I could eat a lot more that I am suppose to without feeling sick or uncomfortable. It scares me that if I feel like this six weeks post-op, what will I be like one year post-op? God forbid I return to my previous eating pattern! Do you measure your food to make sure that you are not consuming too much? Are you chewing 25 times and timing your meals so that you are sure that you aren't eating too fast? What about dumping? Make sure your foods don't contain more than 12 grams of sugar (natural or added). Sounds like you may want to give your doctor a call. I think a little of what you are experiencing is normal for most folks but not to the extent that you are experiencing. Maybe you should keep a food log and review it with your dietitian. Hope you feel beter soon.
Wanda, I could have written your post, I am the exact same way that you are! I do not feel like anything was done to my stomach at all. Nothing phases me, I do not know if this is the calm before the storm or what. My doctor's nurse just says "great, no problems" told me to stick to the plan of measure, chew and take my time eating.
Like I wrote to Tairie you should go to fitday.com and put in the food that you eat for the day and it will tally all your food intake in calories, protein, carbs and more for you for free and also your excersises and a journal, it is a great site.

Tairie,
I have that problem a lot... not all the time, but it seems like I just can't advance my diet past the soft/pureed and even those sometimes hurt my tummy.... I have found that cold water does it to me too and it has to be room temp.... although I can eat popsicles with no problem, so go figure.... I have days that I eat something and it goes fine then the next day I will eat the same thing and it hurts soooo bad, then it comes up. Once I I feel fine. I think I am either not chewing good enough, or I am eating too fast... this could be your problem as well. I would talk to your doctor. I see mine on Wed. and I am going to talk to him then about it. Good Luck....

I know a huge culprit for me is the microwave.. you said you eat something one day and its okay, the next day not... are you microwaving the leftovers? cause I learned quick that I can't microwave crud. I also can't eat older food.. no leftovers for me the change in texture is enough to get me. Just a thought for you.
Thanks for letting me know what your going through. and yes I follow the rule, measure wait chew a lot hehe.

Tairie,
Actually I hardly use the microwave at all anymore. I do a lot of fresh cooking.... mostly turkey spam with a marinade or seasonings. Most days that stays but others I think I just eat too fast. I get hurried with things to do for the kids and the house and all. I forget to take it slow sometimes. The things I have microwaved have been fine though, but that is a good thought... I will keep my eye on that and make sure that is not the case.... Thanks...

I agree with Wanda M. I am just exactly like her, I know that I can eat and eat and eat some more, I have so far had no problem getting sick and hold everything down, I DO measure everything to still my three oz and chew alot and wait alot and finish my meals withing my 20 to 30 minutes, I still have not reached that FULL feeling, but I will stick to the plan and keep doing as they say. My tummy just rolls and growls at me most of the time. I do hope that you get to feeling better and that you ask your doctor "whats up"

I have heard good things about fitday.com. I have a Palm Treo phone that I can add Palm programs to. I put Diet and Exercise Assistant on it. With the click of a button, I can add the foods that I eat and it calculates calories, carbs, protein, etc. It's excellent. It's great for me because my phone is always with me so it is very convenient. I've been running 600-800 calories and probably average 80 grams of protein a day. Is that about the norm with you guys too?
I feel pain when I eat, but its not that kind of sharp pain. It's more like a dull ache that gets a little more painful, and then it goes away after about 30 minutes, and sometimes even after 30 minutes I may drink some water just to get whatever it is go to through.
The only thing that's ever made me feel really horrible, is tomato soup. It's the only thing that's made me throw up. I can't drink milk right now, it makes me extremely bloated and extremely crampy. Otherwise, my tummy is doing fairly well.
