Shannon, I hate to read you're having problems with the emotional issues, but truth be told, you're not in the minority so take what little comfort comes with that.
First, you have to believe you can do this and make it through. It's tough right now, but it does get etter. YOU CAN DO IT!
As far as exercise, start small. At the least, walk. Even if you walk in 10 to 15 minute increments, you are still walking. The walking is so important to the healing process and your energy level. Also, I've read you could still be at risk for pulmenary embolism up to 6 weeks. The more activity you get, the less your chances are of having a problem.
In a few weeks you'll feel differently. You'll be past the emotional disconnect from food, and you won't be wondering why you did this to your body... you'll be too busy relishing in the success of it all!
Hang in there!
Donna
Hi Shannon. I wanted to share with you what I have done regarding exercise. I started out walking once a day about 1 week out from surgery. I made it past 2 houses, and then came home. I walked past those 2 houses until I felt that I could make it to another house and back. After about 5 houses, I was able to increase my walking by one house a day (not counting weekends). After 12 houses (there and back, which means 24 houses total), yesterday I walked around the block, which turned out to be 1/2 mile. My husband has been the guiding force behind this, he knows how important exercise is to making the successful change to a normal weight person. I guess the bottom line is START SMALL. Next week my water aerobics class resumes. I am looking forward to that. It is so cool to have an exercise that I actually don't mind doing. After I've written all this, I'm thinking that perhaps I missed the heart of your post. Are you struggling with depression, is that why you can't get yourself to exercise? Linda
